DLV vs Stainless Steel

Hello. I recently started trying out different modifications and there are some amazing mods. Anyone who has both tried the DLV and Stainless Steel mod..can you tell me which one you personally prefer? My computer doesn't have that much space and I don't know which one to download. I would like to hear some general feedback. Thanks.

SS is quite good but if you like Role playing maybe you could try DLV

I like them both, but from my experience, SS is alot easier and less hardcore than DLV.

I also like both, but I prefer SS simply due to the sheer amount of submods available.

I like the factions more in SS, but DLV adds just so much more to the game. Anyway I play DLV now, but I will probably switch again and again.

You are playing DLV now??!!.. And I always pictured you as a hardcore SS player.

SS is better (in my opinion). DLV adds too many crap I don't want.

I'm also much more in favor of SS, but DLV isn't bad either. Looking forawrd to the final release of "Das heilige Römische Reich".

Why would you assume that I stick to only one? I'm actually more a fan of heavy scripting, it puts more weights on making decisions and adds more depth to roleplaying. I'll admit that I don't like every feature of DLV and that I like SS' map + it's factions more, however I have to give the edge to DLV. And I play them both with great joy, right now I'm trying out TA:TW though. It's fun but it never was my dream mod, that spot is reserved for DoTS.

I just thought that you are hardcore SS player, follower of the religion of KING KONG.
But its ok now

, the other mods are good to try as well. I have never tried DLV, and am also
waiting for the Dominion of the Sword. Now that TA:TW is out the creator KING KONG will return
with the SS 7.0 and that would be something awesome!

They both have diehard fanbases and with good reason. My personal assessment is thus:

If you want vanilla-esque gameplay that is extended upon and further extended by about a gazillion submods, with some pretty units to boot, go for Stainless Steel. One thing to keep in mind is I'm pretty sure KK didn't model for SS, so it's mainly re-skins, but I don't think it makes a difference.

If you want something that maintains the spirit of vanilla but tries to provide a more immersing single player experience, complete with lots of very interesting scripts and a very roleplay-centric approach to the Traits/Ancs system, and has some stunning yet playful 2D Art to boot, go for Deus Lo Vult.

Now, I personally play Pro Deo Et Rege, because I love me some Socal_infidel, and for me it keeps a lot of the vanilla simplicity but makes it better in less immediately noticeable ways. But all of them are great mods created by great modders. I've also heard good things about Kingdoms Grand Campaign, which is much more than it sounds, as well as Sicilian Vespers. And there's quite a few more from this 'generation' of M2 mods(Dawn of Kingdoms, Expanded Americas) as well as the older generation(LTC, Anno Domini, etc.) which might tickle your fancy.

The best way to find out is to play them one by one and write down your thoughts somewhere you can reference them later, like a blog or a word file, then see which one or two you liked the best and keep those. Truth is there is no vs. because each mod has its merits that another mod loses at by comparison, and all these merits are arbitrary and not actual values which come based on personal preference. So someone can tell you SS is best, or DLV is best, or Q('.'Q) is best, but in the end that's just fanboyism -- you have to try them yourself and see which one you like the best, not which one 'is the best'.

On a more serious note, SS' fanbase as showed by a recent poll is way bigger. The thing was that DLV used to be very hardcore, nowadays you can choose which scripts you want on but back in the day you had to play with this horrible garrison spawn script, whenever I would siege a Lithuanian settlement they would simply spawn a whole bunch of units with two of them being Lithuanian knights clad in plate. Good luck fighting those with spear militia. Anyway the fanbase they got with this was smaller and more loyal but some of those people bothered me with their 'hardcoreness' attitude. Oh and next to that it was extremely unstable on Vista.

I assume by blue you mean my username. Blue names have nothing to do with posting merits or demerits, they either mean Content Staff(people who write articles for the Eagle Standard, Helios; people who make site art), Librarians, or in my case Technical Staff who keep the site running.
