    Default Orc Formations

Does anyone else find it wierd that mordor's orcs and the OOTMM all form up in perfect squares with perfect ranks? I always thought Orcs (especially those snaga ones) were barely capable of speech, let alone forming up battle ranks... I always envisioned them as just rabbles of orcs formed up in a rough group.

I was contemplating editing the formations for them but I don't have much time atm. (exams ) Perhaps it could be changed in a patch or released in a submod...

    Thoughts anyone?

I always thought they were kind of well-organized. After all, they might be a wild crowd, but their leaders are sufficiently brutal to keep them in line, it would seem.

Edit: Alright, alright, that's Isengard. But the Mordor orcs did pretty well at Minas Tirith too.

Nope, the orcs of Mordor were literally massacred during the Siege of Gondor. But they were probably well organized, probably more so than the Uruks of Isengard. How you might ask? The Nazgūl were masters of terror, orcs would fear them more than the enemy . However, even then the Orcs would probably quickly abandon any formation as soon as battle was joined. They simply lack the skill and discipline.

I have yet to get back Kingdoms from a friend, so I can finally play this awesome mod. And so I can only speak from my experiences with Fourth Age: Total War.
I loved playing orcs in that mod, and I too wanted them to be less organized and homogenous.
What I did is putting all melee-orcs to loose formation and just mix them in one tight, large bulk of units. (Too direct this mob, grouping is required). This "formation" worked surprisingly well, because single units got less casualties and so was less likely to rout, wich is great for orcs as is was their main weakness (in FA:TW). And it caused massive chaos and damage too (tight formation = many pointy orc weapons concentrated on small space).
The Gondorian centre (my fav enemy^^) broke very fast and before the flank-units could react mass-rout was inevitable.
I also tried that as Germans in Rome and the poor Romans did not now what hit them.
So I guess it could work in Third Age too. Can't whait to try it myself.

Yeah, Uruk Hai are different. Look at when the orcs bundled out of the black gate though. Or when the goblins in moria attacked them in that underground hall. It was always just a mob. At minas Tirith though, the orcs quickly descended into a mob with no order....

I dunno, maybe it's just that comanding orcs seems the same as commanding a human army, which I thought it wouldn't.

so you need someone to go thru and edit 4 or 5 units from trained to untrained when you could do it less than 1 minute due to the oh so wonderful copy and paste technque

    Edit

Well i was kind enough to go thru my EDU and edit the oh so tedious work that was copy and paste. that took only one minute, i believe the uploading actully took longer than the work required.

    Snaga skirm.
    Snaga bow
    All trolls
Berserker(increased the distance between units aswell, personal preferance)
orcs tier 1 and 2 units aswell most if not all again i just glanced thru it so i might of missed one or two.

Thanks for the effort (or lack of it as you put it) but that's not what I meant. I was talking about editing mass values, spacings values, untrained/trained/highly_trained parameters (the only thing you did) and some other things that sprang to mind. I was also considering doing OOTM, Mordor the Dunlendings and some other rabble-like units.

So...thanks but I was thinking of something more extensive. (still +rep though )
