Seth Godin's golden rules for making an effective web advert:
1. Use a word or a catchphrase that has the potential to become an anthem, that which can lead to your commercial being top of the page every time it's Googled, that fits snugly in the subject of an email and that can be a great topic for discussion in informal settings - be it in a playground during a friendly volleyball game or be it at a cafeteria table in college/office. The whole idea is to maximize viewer clicks!
2. The web visitor is gifted with a fleeting attention span and flips webpages the same way an HR Manager flips through resumes. So, the commercial should aim at being pacy, throw in quick cuts with doses of slapstick. Anything to grab that fickle attention span!
Castrol EGGE's "Think with your Dipstick, Jimmy" web commercial manages to live up to both these rules!
