what if the goverment is hidding proof of visitors from outer space?

I have few questions about this.

first do you think the goverment has the right to hide something so important as this?

second if it was true, and it was leaked. I mean leaked as proof beyond any doubt. what would happened to the government and the people who decided to keep it from the public?.

in my opinion no government has the right to keep something so important as this from the public. I think the heads of the people responsible for it should roll, and if not government itself should be restated. to me this would be the biggest act of betryal humanly possible.

Which 'Government'?

Furthermore, any 'Government' is not unitary entity. Are you asking about 1) Current elected executive or 2) State agencies.

If you are asking about elected officials, does it include the opposition, who may also be privy to sensative information?

If you are asking about State agencies, which ones?

Typical oversimplication of conspiratorial world view. (Reminds of the Loose Change guys who keep banging on about 'the Government' with little clear notion of who they want to take to task -they just assume 'the Government' is behind everything.)

Have you considered the possibility that 'Governments' are unaware, but that private citizens are, and are keeping that information from 'Governments' as well as other private citizens for their own interests?

As for ET. Maybe we can't handle the truth.

I don't think it is within their rights, of course they're not very specific with this kind of thing (Conspiracy??)

If it leaked, depends on the aliens really.

answer me why it's so important to know. They're visitors. Perhaps we can't make contact with them beyond just simply seeing them. What woudl be the point of knowing that something exists, but it has no effect on your daily life or even any amount of policy? "Life can exist outside of earth" well, we figure that out just by looking at how big the universe actually is. Perhaps it woudl make us rethink the laws of physics.

knowing can have massive consequences. for example religion, and ofcourse politics. most religions will be virtually wipe out, and in politics will be hard to accept borders or this country vs that country mentality. apparently most of you guys don't get the question. this is a what if topic (noone is arguing if there is life in the universe, or confirming a conspiracy theory.

how will the world deal with the idea that we are not alone once they know without doubt. and how will we deal with the goverments, if we found out they been hidding the evidence or maybe even had contact already.

let me repeat this. I' not saying I believe this is happening. I just establish an event. this is not q can or cannot happened topic.

Meh, until there is an alien knocking on my door and saying "Take me to your leader", UFO's will remain just what the name implies. To me at least. There is a big difference between believing we're not alone in the vastness of space, and believing that we have extra terristrial visitors who drop by from time to time and teach us new things. Like how to build pyramids for example.

I would think the biggest act of betrayal would be killing you in the name of say ethnic purity, or political ideology.

Maybe thats why they don't release the information on the aliens, if we all knew about them they would have to kill us.

Conspiracy theorists always credit the government as having much more power than they actually have. In the past decade we have seen the mightiest nation attacked by terrorists who live in caves, we have seen that same government struggle to win a war in Iraq and especially in Afghanistan, and that same government could not even respond to the cries for help of its own citizens during hurricane Katrina. Governments all over the world are struggling to respond to the financial crisis, cross border terrorism and environmental degredation. What makes you think a government could possibly hide a secret like alien vistors for long, when they can't even handle these things and when half of the world's state secrets are exposed on Google Earth and Wikileaks?
