What I'm seeing here is overpowered archers! There's no way a Gondor army that size should be able to fend off two and a half times as many orcs without taking grievous casualties.

That was a custom right? Cos I didn't think it possible for 3 armies to fit on one side of a bridge in the campaign map battle area.

Since there are named generals involved (not captains) on both sides, it's campaign. Any army directly adjacent to one that is attacked/that attacks can provide reinforcements.

there can be i think 6 armies total in a battle

This was on the campaign map, just look at the second screenshot and it will tell you the battlefield

those fountain guards where amazing, they slaughtered many orcs but took alot of casualties

It's called bridge battles.
Try them even in the original game, heck, in the original I've managed to fend off 5000 men with just 2000.
Bridge battles are very good for the defensive side, bottleneck + catapults/balistas and archers = Death to the offensive force. 'Overpowered' archers, as you call them, have nothing to do with it. They're not overpowered at all, it's just that every arrow hits in bridge battles because your enemy is stuffed into a pile of soldiers, so no arrow misses, meaning maximum casualties. Same about balistas and catapults, very effective.

Great work on that, by the way, Gondor must prevail!

I remember those Retinue Longbowman well. They will kill at least several hundred every time you deploy them. Some of the only units I've ever seen get 3 gold chevrons in M2.

It's a bridge battle, so what? Just put your spear units front and the rest do the archers and ballista units...

The result is about the same in every total war version and modification.
