Fox will not air Obama Press Conference

Fox became the first broadcast network to turn down a request by President Barack Obama for time, opting to show its drama "Lie to Me" on Wednesday instead of the president's prime-time news conference. Fox will direct viewers interested in the news conference to Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network, which will both carry it. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and CNBC are all carrying the 8 p.m. EDT event, on Obama's 100th day in office.

Is it politics or simply ratings and numbers? Do they think Tim Roth will get higher ratings than the president of the United States? Even if they don't like Obama, they should at least allow him to speak so they can take him apart afterward. But not airing him at all is just, a new low to me.

Considering its Fox the entertainment channel we are talking about here it is very doubtful political but it is entering May sweeps and Obama's events have pulled rather poor numbers for network television (most people already watch it on CNN/Fox News etc) so its almost definately a bottom line decision here. Now if Fox news wasnt carrying it then yes it would be political. Just as a side note Bush admin was denied primetime airtime too on several networks during his presidency too. Remember networks are under no obligation to turn over free airtime besides somehow I doubt Obama is going to suffer from underexposure.

They are airing it? It'll just be on Fox News and Fox Business instead regular Fox. No biggie. They're even nice enough to put a ticker thing on there telling people who want to watch where to go to check it out.

Actually it was Fox who did it to Bush in Nov of 2001, I think NBC or CBS did do it as well as a later date but cant say for sure.

Apparently there are more than enough channels broadcasting it, including Fox News.

I always hate it when a single event is broadcast on every single channel.
There are always people who aren't interested, so there should always be alternatives.

People who own 9 TV's and want to watch the speech on 9 different channels at once will be disappointed, though.

I'll be the first to bash on Fox when it deserves it, but were talking about it's entertainment channel, not it's news channel. Hell, who would rather watch a stuffy press conference than a quality TV show? Not me!

Obama has a press conference like once a week, interrupting my prime time shows with his endless rants about hope and change. I honestly don't care. I just want to watch House...

THe conferesnces are boring and he usually doesn't say anything interesting. I'm not surprised they aren't covering it...
