Is it possible to have a faction excommunicated at the start of the game?
Doesn't have to be 1st turn, can it be scripted?
If yes . . . how?
My initially basic saxon mod is going into version 2 and is becoming a bit more in depth ! ! !
Find the start of diplomacy section in the descr_strat and add these two lines, it might work and then again it might not but it's worth a try. If that doesn't work add the second set of lines.
faction_standings papal_states, -1.0 saxons
faction_standings hre, -1.0 papal_states
faction_relationships papal_states, at_war_with saxons
faction_relationships saxons, at_war_with papal_states
You might have to go to war with the papal_states to make sure you are excommed so use the faction_relationships lines as well.

I think I have seen both of them tried actually and I don't remember them to work. Actually when at war with the Papal states and tried to attack them I think I was warned that I'll get excomunicated.
alhoon is not a member of the infamous Hoons: a (fictional) nazi-sympathizer KKK clan. Of course, no Hoon would openly admit affiliation to the uninitiated.

May try that, but I don't really want them at war with papal states, just excommunicated. Trying to make the game start summer 1066 and as historically accurate as possible. Already have england (haven't changed them to normans) allied to denmark and hre at start.
Have checked through the docudemons and couldn't find an appropriate script for excommunication. I'm wondering whether it would be possible, as a bad alternative, to try and script in a crusade on london. Not really ideal as I don't want all of catholic europe descending upon the saxons!
You shouldn't give up to fast:
Set papal standing of the Saxons to around zero and papal standing of the Normans to very high, and make the Normans allied to the Pope and at war with the Saxons (Pope-Saxons should be neutral). I think it would be impossible for the Saxon AI, and would require a very experinced Saxon human player, to avoid the Saxons being excommunicated in the first ten turns (provided they can actualy attack the Normans).
