patcher won't run.

I'm running 1.01.000 of medievealII total war. I just installed, the game fresh today and downloaded all the patches. It extracts, but when it goes to install I immediately get Update error then in the box below Error:unknown Update cannot be continued.


any idea's why or how I can get past this?

CA made a mess with the 1.01 patch: you cannot update further. Re-install the basic game and use patch 1.03.

well you can't do 1.03, unless you have 1.02. But now that you mentioned that I think I got the same error when i tried to install 1.02 from the basic install. But I'll try that again to be sure.
