    Default Favorite type of battle?

I haven't really seen anything like this on any of the threads and i thought it might be an interesting topic so here it is. What type of battles do you like playing the best. This includes open field battles and sieges and bridges etc. Also say whether you like attacking or defending better in your case, as i love defending in a siege but rather auto resolve besieging(sp?) a tough castle, fortress, and especially a citadel, but i know for some that might be their favorite because of the challenge. So I'm interested in your opinions.

Well I favor land battles over sieges. Sieges are fun, but land battles seem more brutal. It is fun though to kill all of the enemy during a siege.
    I enjoy attacking and defending.

I personally love defending in a bridge battle. You can fight on with huge odds, and if you are prepared, you can be nigh-unstoppable.

Every battle are fun, the best ones are always the ones you were you should die, either get an Heroic victory or die in battle with honor. This is where for me the adrenaline is at his top

I like the Sally battles when ur enemy sallies. Its just really fun ramming all my soldiers into the sallying enemy routing them quickly and taking the city without trouble XD.

I also had this one where i was sallying against two Mongol armies. That was truly a fun battle. I killed one of the full stacks. Then my allies appeared (i put them on comp control STUPID!!) they got slaughtered and let the mongols into the first layer of my castle. and I just hid out in the second one.

Finally I had one seige as the Moors by Sicily. Where they assaulted me and I fought them to the last man. Their full stacks against my like 8 units and King. They payed dearly for that castle. It was fun XD

Siege defense can be incredibly fun if you're in a castle with a small force.

I'm not sure about my favourite, but I do enjoy defending a citadel. However I've never found it "incredibly fun" due to the fact that the AI seems terrible at attacking multi-layered defences. It seems to come in with a game plan and if you disrupt this by destroying even one bit of siege equipment or artillery it just loses it's head and sits in the second layer getting shot by towers/archers.

I do not know about favorite, but I find the low light and night battles to be "interesting". I am seldom on defense -- so like a previous post I do enjoy a defensive battle trying to hold a settlement with only a handful of units. To have interesting defensive battles with larger forces, you almost need to be playing the single battles against real people rather than a campaign.

I like battles that are close or odds are stacked aganist me.

Steam rolling the enemy is only so much fun, however fighting a truly difficult long grueling battle is just so much fun.

Early game youg et a lot of those, however late game once you've begun to dominate it just goes away.

Like my last battle was 1,200 men vs 230 in open field... Needless to say my 1,200 men steam rolled the 250 it wasn't even a competiton.

    Bridge Battles=Fun

Yeah it is nice to sit back after a nice battle and look at a Heroic Victory.

Yes, although the losses are sometimes depressing(for me anyway). I prefer Siege battles defense or attack. I like defence better though, especially with me outnumbered.(I hate it when the enemy besiege your city but decide to wait it out until siege drops without attacking. I forgot I was besieged once and I had to fight a battle with 1 turn until surrender and half my army gone. (I lost pretty bad) I'm not really a big fan of open field battles but I'll play them. I agree with WarlordofMen, sallybattles are fun. especially when the enemy get stuck against their gates which won't close. *see attachements*

I enjoy ambushing enemies, on wooded terrain. Archers and Horse Archers can run rings around a superior force in the forests.

See thats what i like best too, is running circles around infantry with archer cavalry, BUT when im attacked my archer cavalry (whos melee might even be superior as well) dont switch their bows to swords until they're out of ammo. As a matter of fact I lost, or could have won so much better if only i could tell my archers to switch to melee. Is there some sort of a HOTKEY that makes the archers stop trying to shoot and make use of their swords? (its awfully hard to believe real archers of the day stood around taking hits while holding on to thier bows with a dumb look on their face; sharp, expensive sword snugly sheathed).

You hold control(the button under shift) and put your mouse over the unit you want to attack. For archer cavalry, a sword icon will come up. If you right click they will attack with swords instead of bows(i think that they will still shoot at them until they get within a certain distance then they will put up their bows). If you don't hold down control they will just shoot.

I tried the Ctrl button in the way you described (hold Ctrl and right click) on both archers and horse archers (archers didn't do well in that battle...). Both battles would have been fun to win but the sword icon didn't even apear. Maybe that hokey wont work on my lappy. =/

I like battles that are even to both sides. It makes the battles alot better.
