    Default Brainwave!

I was wondering how to give factions the horde ability, is it just a .txt editing job? Because, I was thinking: If the Roman Empire falls, I doubt the remaining characters would run off and hide. I think they would gather the reminants of the Roman army and attempt to re-make the roman empire. Thier horde units would be pedites romanii and romanii sagitarii, and maybe equites auxilla. What does everybody think about that?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
What have the Romans ever done for us?? apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
    Some of my favourite quotes:
"Your god has yet to prove himself more merciful than his predecessors" ~ Hypatia, as represented in the film 'Agora'
"If you choose to do nothing, they will continue to do this again and again, until there is no-one left in the city, no people for this governement to govern"
~ Hypatia, as represented in the film 'Agora'

I think it will be a lot of work, start by looking at descr_sm_factions. And after that units need to have the horde_unit attribute in export_descr_unit.
I'm not sure if I spelled all that correct.

It's probably in many different files, that need to be adjusted to each others.

I thought that this would be the case. Trust Rome to make itself hard to mod.

Actually, history tells a different story. If your example were correct then why, after 407AD, did the Western Empire collapse and disappear totally by 500AD? I think we tend to view those ancient times through our modern eyes and because of modern communication systems and instant news ability we assume that things would be the same then as they are now. Unfortunately, hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If you really missed the roman government (For some reason!), you could just catch a ship to the eastern empire. What I was thinking of was more if the Romans dissapear entirely, then they form a horde.

Again, history tells us another story in that once conquered the 'Roman' population of a province tended not to rise up and form independent armies. Rather, they appeared to welcome the new invaders who treated them no worse than they had been treated under the yoke of the Empire, but actually taxed them less!!! So, no historical precident for Roman 'hordes' I'm afraid.

Why bother. That's never going to happen within the game.
And maybe cultures are hardcoded, so you would have to make them barbarian with the round cities.

There is nothing wrong with putting your ideas forward. That's how we all get to discuss things and learn. I value it.

    Cheers

I think an interesting concept and dont yet give up on it..ideas sometimes transcend and change a bit..but I could see this more plausible if a rebellion from a still existing WRE province. We could also use the collapse in the west as a an example to for if the East were to also fall. Odocoar and even more Theodoric the great Odoacer saw themselves as becoming a part of the Roman Empire more so then destroying it.

Odoacer was supported by the Senate and given recognition as patricius by the Byzantine Augustus. He even raised a Gothic-Roman army to fight the Vandals successfully in Sicily. Under Theodoric 493AD-Goths were still subjected in some capacity under Roman laws..both Roman and Goth system of law that ran side by side Theodoric ruled from Ravenna and was a restorer of Roman cities. They both respected the laws and the institutions of Rome including the Roman Senate.

The point being A horde represents a people and as a whole people united in a migration and if we want to see it as a rebellion of sorts it would be unwise for those characters for such little support would be giving to them within the peninsula by the people. They would probably be seen as outlaws...If possibly you were in Gaul as Gaul still stood under Sygarius in 476AD then this to me is plausible situation.

Never the less intriguing to think about this in the terms of possible realistic plausibilities...It makes modding a bit fun

Thenwhy don't we put in a trigger that changes the goth tech tree once Rome is captured? Maybe turning them into a semi-roman faction? With some Roman units, buildings, etc.

Hmm, now that is a good idea.
