Re: Question about the gallic wars and the Gauls
Alot of that information is quite involved and complex, its like asking how many ethnic groups and minority cultures live in America.
1. Every single tribe besides the Remi joined Vercingetorix's uprising I believe, but its impossible to know who exactly sent what to the relief force at Alesia. Even if Caesar or someone else could find out or mention it, such an army was hardly regimented so there could very well have been small handfuls from every tribe and beyond who took part, large and small.
2. Very few, though the Eburones immediately come to mind.
3. Pretty much everyone fought with the Romans at some point, with the possible exception of the Remi. Even the Aedui, long allied with Rome turned against them during the great revolt of Vercingetorix.
4. That's a hard number to concretely verify, since the Gauls didn't keep thorough records like that. Estimates vary, and that's where you get your 3 million, 4 million, and 6 million.
