I think the overpowered factions are: Kyppies, ERE, Khwarezm, Ayyubids, Ayyubids, Ayyubids and Ayyubids again.

Yeah Ayyubids are crazy strong in the hands of the AI. In my Ghorid save, they destoryed KoJ and Armenia, with the line of their power going from (not kidding) antioch to baghdad. They pretty much have everything south of that line, except the Omani territories, they got an allience with Oman IIRC.

As for the other you name, Khwarezm holds everything to the north of that line, they killed the Great Seljuks somehow. They leave Oman alone too for some weird reason. Their borders are near Samarquand, they went west from there. ERE has all of turkey (killed the turks and armenians) and right now are at war with the kypchak who have everyting they usually get + Georgia. As Ghorid, I hold everything to East of Samarquand. I'm pretty sure if I keep playing Khwarezm is gonna kick my ass since I have no spearmen.

They are overpowered if they are allowed to expand, because they are the only faction that can recruit native units all over the map.

I am still playing my H/VH Turkish Sultanate campaign although last turn I was informed that the
Abbasids (who are my allies)had won the game
I had destroyed the Armenians & sent a big stack of high quality troops led by a grade 5 loyalty general to Varna to finish off the last Byzantine province(Constantinople is in the hands of rebel crusaders) when lo & behold my general & his army became "A traitor to my People"!!!!!!!!
I became a bit suspicious of the AIs intentions after that
It's the first time I've ever had that message in about 50 Med II campaigns & it's weird as the
Mongols haven't even come on the scene yet
Is this because I'm playing the short campaign?

ya but the kypacks have weak units and if anyone can recruit anywhere it would be the rajputs in india but they have competition.

I still remember my shock when I first encountered that "traitor to our people" feature in Barbarian Invasion.
My most elite generals stacked with my best troops started defecting ans becoming rebels was something that used to drive me crazy. After in M2TW and Kingdoms and in all the mods you would come across that
thing which is bit of a pain in the neck, but it does make the game more harder. And frustrating of course.

I like that feature - play Chivalry II for a realistic representation. If you have a leader with low authority, it can cause nobles on the peripheries to lose loyalty. Sometimes it sparks a civil war - in my current game the Fatamids were just torn in two by civil war. What's cool is that the throne passes through family, so when someone from another family becomes leader, a notice pops up about how the old dynasty ended and I think there's some loyalty concerns.

But yeah. Ayyubids have consistently been #1, minus one game where Jerusalem went insane and took over Anatolia.

Yeah, Ayyubids are truly overpowered. But it's a great pleasure playing against them.

Chivalry II, is that a different game? Or a mod? I've never heard of it.

Agreed, although I can't help feeling that this is a result of le Outremer being overpowered as well-- since the Ayyubids are really supposed to crush them. Perhaps they both need to be toned down a bit.
