Default Slight Lag in Medieval II

I just got my new laptop today and the first thing I did was install medieval II since i had the game but could not run it. However, in testing some custom games I had a slight lag where the game or audio would stint every couple seconds. I tried turning it to the lowest settings and switching the shader but this did not help. My laptop far surpasses the required settings for this game. What's going on and how can I fix it?

Here are my laptop specs and link:
    Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4GHz / 4GB RAM / 500GB Hard Drive / Geforce 9600M GT / DVD±R/RW Drive / Webcam / 802.11AGN / Bluetooth / Vista Home Premium 64Bit

    Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I just downloaded the latest version directx before I installed it. I'm not sure what the sound system is or how to find it...

Click "Start", type in "Run", open Run and type in dxdiag, run it and click the sound tab and post what it says.

This happened to me before but i just turned off my PC cause it was too hot and then it worked fine the next time i tried it.

It says Speakers and Dual Headphones IDT High, SPDIF, and independent Dual headphones for the names under device on the sound tabs. It also lists some ID. I don't see anything that clearly states the name of the sound system. Sorry if this doesn't help

Hm, well sorry to say this lad but i can't help you since the only thing i can think of is the needed Direct X 9. Good luck and sorry i can't help. If i think of anything then i'll post but don't worry, give it a day and other members will help.

EDIT: Did you update your drive?
