What just happened?

I was playing a game just like normal and I decided to move my diplomat to a princess, and the game minimized and a message popped up saying that Medieval 2 Total War has had an unexpected problem and is now going to exit. or something like that, I not sure if thats exactly what it said but it was close to it. then all that was left of the Medieval 2 Total War window was an outline of a window, but nothing in it.

soo... after waiting to see it would shut down like it said it would it just sat there so I started up the task manager and ended it myself. now I really don't know what would make it have an CTD, but I was just wondering what you guys think of it.

Sound like a problem with the Princess. If a family member gets in the place in the family tree, things like this will happen.

lol, bad diplomat! leave the girl alone! lol, well I guess I'll restart the campaign. and it seemed like such a good idea to get the Germans off my back at the time.

Well... this is just crazy!!! so I restarted my campaign and half way through it. I had just won a tough battle when my Laptop just shut off! just like bam, its off! this is really getting odd, and I don't even know what could be wrong! is it heating up to much? I really don't think its because my laptop is not good enough. I mean I have what it takes I know. this is just making to since what so ever, help me out here.

You could post you pc specs so we know if it's because of that or something with the game (again)...

its a 2.4Gh processor, 3GB of Ram, and an 8600GT 256MB. Yes I know it could be better, I know that can do it. I know i have the system requirements. I know I have DX9. whats going on here!

This is so strange, I used to be able to play this game all day without too many problems, but now its like I can't get close to it. and to think I just ordered Kingdoms.

Heat will shut it down. This game pushes the computer parts to the max and generate a lot of heat. Have you tried cleaning out the case?

I would if I knew how. Do you mean just like cleaning it for like dust or do you mean taking some of it apart and cleaning it that way?

Make sure you're playing on an flat and even surface so the cooling fan can work properly.

You could try opening up the laptop and sucking up all the dust.
(careful, cables could be sucked in, god knows it happened to me lol)

Looks flat to me. nothing odd here, but its strange how I used to play it without too many problems, and now its really seems to have trouble playing it. its laggy.

Well, I guess I'll just hope for the best then. I might get one of those things you set your laptop on to cool it, so ya. Maybe it was hot in my room too, it was very hot and stuffy.
It could be lots of things making it heat up like, but I think If I think about it and try some new stuff, I think I might be able to pin-point the problem.

i remember i sent a diplomat to the german castle metz to offer a ceasefire, but the germans sent their own. They accepted a ceasefire for a bunch of settlements(including metz).
I forgot to call the diplomat off so he kept going to metz to start a diplomacy mission, problem is it was my own town. So then the game crashed. I guess your problem might be the same as mine.

Must be getting to hot.

So I guess I'm going to be getting one of those cooling rack thingys.

Anywho... If you guys have any suggestions as to how I can help keep it from over heating, let me know.
