Yeah but I like this thread but FAQ doesnt seem very open to questions haha.... and to kick it off..
If I wanted to use one of the numbered legions, and make it historically accurate, what would I use? Like just one first cohort and 9 regular cohorts then one general? I read a guide that was very well done by Century X, but what is an Auxilia Legion? Is that the normal legion at the time?
OK i have a question, I jsut starting playing the mod as Syracuse, and love the map the details and etc..
I`m playing on hard/very hard.
But dunno if it is because im used to other mods...
but units die way to fast, i got my sycilian hoplites that i think are supposed to be pretty goodbut lets say i send three of them to take down a gate, let say the cartaginias they have 2 units guardian that gate, i forgot the name of the unit but it is a light infantary that is in every city on the sycilian island.
If my 220 x3 660 man i lose at least 300 or more...
it is jsut supposed to be like this? if is it is okay, is just wierd for me for they to they so fast.
thank you
EDIT::: Rory, the other thread is shut, and would need me to open a thread to get another one opened and then shut my thread!
A 'Legion' is, as you stated, 1 first Cohort and 9 regular cohorts. After that, you can fill the remaining spaces up with velites/equites etc.
I generally have 2 family members/ 1 family member + general in command of each main army. This can get the 'lower' raked person some nice traits, as it acts like an 'apprentice' system.
An Auxilia legion is a stack of replacements for certain legion.
e.g V Audulae (sp?). If that legion loses a lot f men in battle, and you are far away from it's home-town, you can then replace any losses with men from the Auxilia legion.
Can work very well if you're too far away from the hometown of the legion to send them there to get retrained.

What should I fill it with after the family member and general are in? just velites and equites?
Or/and auxiliaries, mercenaries ect.

what type of cavalry?
about to attack Greece....which controls Sparta.
Should I be afraid for Spartans in this mod?
I have played plenty of other mods like XGM or Diadochi......and Spartans were really tough machines there. How bout it in RS?
Yeah they're tough but they're not supermen! Take a look at their stats in a custom battle or somethin if you're really interested.![]()
They are (i think) the toughest in the game, if not the toughest, then deffinatley in the top 3. They kick ass basically. You should try to gage where they are going to attack in your line and re enforce it asap or you will get some pretty heavy casualties, especiialy if they break through an omportant part of your line.
Just be careful and make good use of your archers and cav. However I doubt that the AI will make many of them![]()
I admit I probably should have searched more and I may find the answer, but is there any way to make units only attack a specific other unit? For example, I had an evenly matched stack of VE, Velites, Cavalry against mainly Phalanx and Hoplites of Macedonians with some light lancers. I managed to kill all their cavalry early on with plenty of mine spare. I sent these to kill off their Peltasts as they were separate from te pikes and figured I could clear them out the way, but they made an "executive decision" to go attack some pikemen instead! I had clicked on the peltasts only - how do I make them only attack what I said? Actually, it just occurs that I probably have them on melee as a default? I did win overall, managed to lure the phalanxes onto the legions who all had fire at will onand then proceeded to slaugther them all - that'll teach them to break an alliance!
Also, a minor "bug" in the information - I just captured Rhodes and can build a massive trade harbour, the information card says that these can be built in 6 places (I think) but it doesn't mention Rhodes, whereas I can build it there. I can send a screenshot if this isn't a known bug - obviously extremely minor and not actually a functional bug.
