its always nice knowing what happens when you play on VH VH. ex: with the byzantine, i have a hard time every time and the guide gives you a few tips.

sicily got boring, conquered italy, whole egypt and north africa. i crusaded 3 times in egypt, nothing really special and moors didnt put up a fight.

Why isnt there a link under a thread marked important taht leads you to all kinds of guides? they only have some random guides that help you if you are playinga short campagin

Long campaigns, like I have explained to you already in another thread is harder to do in a sense where every player will like to do what they want. Having good strong short campaign guides( Like VP did) gives you a good boost/start for your long campaign in which you would maybe do something else instead of doing exactly what I did, but also I have tried to play with the same faction and try to do everything in the same way the result wasn't the same.

What is fun about M2TW is even tough you play with the same faction the campaign itself won't play completely in the same way as your first campaign played with that given faction.

I would suggest you do take into account the short guides and them walk by yourself. this may seem stupid but I would compare this as when you start walking, your parents gaved you the starting tools and then you took the path you felt was right for you.

    Hope this answers

I donŽt know any guides, but I once played a long campaing with them and I can offer a couple of advice, first get Florence and the rebels around you, get Milan while it is small and weak, and stay on the popeŽs good side, mid-campaign just focus on expanding on 1 place, europe, asia, etc..., or youŽll end up having a very disperse and desorganized empire. Also Hungary tends to atack you and Sicily is a minor threat. Hope it helps a bit.

I don't want to be rude here but isn't always what player do at first.

To be different ,here is one thing I did once, on the first turn I've sent my diplomat to HRE in Bologna, gave them trade right marriage alliance, map information gave them 3500 florins and ask of them Bologna, which they accepted so that was a good way for me to get rid of one pesty faction and have a better hold on the Italian Pennisula

Make good use of Italian Spear Militia, since they're cheap and can stand toe to toe with most northern European mainstay infantry units. They're a splendid unit.

I had a great campaign as Venice once upon a time. I limited my expansion strictly to coastal settlements, so I had a nice ring of settlements across the western Mediterranean, with an elaborate naval defence. My land armies weren't much. I felt pretty cool playing it.

I second the idea of capturing Florence early on. Also, since you will be at war with Milan and HRE (they don't seem to like to be at peace with you) I converted Florence into a Castle. Yes, you won't get the as much taxes from it, but it will keep you in northern Italy. Take out the Sicilians and then expand into North Africa, and keep those settlements as cities.

I also found that you can capture Timbuktu with relative ease early on. Then just recruit a bunch of merchants and get them trading the abundant ivory and gold.

I love playing as Venice. Try and take lots of coastal and island settlements, then concentrate on upgrading your ports and markets. If you have lotsa of ports in the mediterinian its a good idea to establish trades routes with muslim factions, especially egypt.

Also develop a good navy. It worked for them historically (I study medieval history and did my coursework on the 4th crusade and the republic of venice, so I do know about them =D) and it certainly works in the game as well; as having lots of coastal settlements = lotsa of people blockcading ports.

i generally just keep small garrisons and when i need a big army I hire a lotta mercenaries for a couple of turns, fight all the battles i need to then disband them once I've taken my next valuable city.

By the way, Milan WILL attack you at some point. If you stay in the popes good books they'll get themselves excommunicated and thats when I counter attack and try and take as much as the Italian penninsula as possible. The more you control of northen Italy, the wealthier youll become. Then when you become super rich, the world is your oyster

P.S. in a campaign with Venice I once ammassed over a hundred thousand florins, kinda regretting not screen printing it now :\
