any ideas?
It's basically an SPQR problem, but it might have to do with FATW. Please take a look and share your thoughts if there could be a connection:

(I guess linking over there is better than starting the same thing here again. If not let me know)

Re: any ideas?
This does not sound like a FATW-related problem to me. The mod is completely modfoldered and should not touch your original game files nor any other mods'. Also, I'm not sure the best way to solicit our help is to describe the mod as boring...

Re: any ideas?
The graphics are great and so are music and atmosphere, but the battles are in my opinion boring compared to SPQR. My opinion. That's nothing to discuss here I suppose. FATW was the only thing I used concerning TW. I even re-installed everything by now and it still doesn't work. No clue what it might be. All I say is the units seem to move and vanilla style, maybe FATW style. Haven't played both extensively to distinguish
So does there exist any (temporary-)folder where FTW stores files that could mislead other copies?

Re: any ideas?
FATW is completely modfoldered, and the temporary folder it uses during the installation (tnsTemp) has nothing whatsoever to do with vanilla files. If FATW does load and play without problem, then your installation is fine and the problem lies with SPQR; either that or you had a non-clean installation of RTW before installing SPQR (that was not the result of FATW).
I would suggest a complete uninstall and a reinstall of RTW.
As for your opinion on FATW, you don't really have to explain yourself, it's all a matter of personal taste, I'm sure there are people that dislike SPQR's arcade-y gameplay, just as you dislike FATW's.

Re: any ideas?
What is so "arcade-y" about SPQR?...sure it's not an overrealistic simulation but maybe our definitions of "arcade" differ
Anyway, thought I ask...I'm completely puzzled what happened there and how...will delete anything that has something to do with TW

Re: any ideas?
Ok, scratch "arcade-y" from that sentence, keep the rest.
If you still have issues that are or could be FATW-related, let us know.
