Default [Modding Success] Adding a completely new faction

Hey all, I have successfully managed to add a new faction to the game. Name, flags (republic AND monarchy!), unit colors all working properly- right now, the roster is a smaller version of Britain's, but I intend to work on changing that.

There are a few kinks to work out, I mean- the only time I tried naval battles crashed, and there is the strange 2 of every ship glitch. But it's progress.

If this has managed to be done before, please, feel free to point it out. I searched, but found nothing.

I'm currently in a computer lab, away from my game, but when I get back home I'll post screens.

A faction on the campaign map or for battles?

Battles, though I think adding it onto the campaign map shouldn't be that tough, should it?

Boicote posted a mod today that apparently has factions added to custom battles. It is much harder to add them to the campaign because you have to edit hundreds of entries in startpos.esf and who knows which dbs

It should in theory be the same as adding an emergent faction, since they have no territory and neither would the created faction.

Bah, of course, somebody else releases JUST BEFORE I figure out how to do it. Screw this, I'm going to Iraq...

Umm, I might not have a release of it, but I have a had a working factions addition for almost a week now.

How did you get over the bug of the flag display not actually changing when you selected the faction in the custom battle?

Sorry, I must not have looked hard enough. Now looking back through the search, I see your mod- sorry again.

I didn't have the flag not displaying properly bug. Are you sure you have all the flags correct- large, flag_132, and mini_flag? I have all those (hell, just in preparation for this, a few weeks ago I even created the small UI, like portrait flags), and everything works properly- in fact, I just fixed the last few problems I was having, leaving me with a fully functional army.

Now, have you managed to assign unique textures to your factions yet? I tried to give my line infantry a unique coat, so that they had gold ridges, but it didn't work.

You cannot give unique textures right out, you can color a faction, there are alot of color options.

You need to modify the faction texture for that unit, and not all factions have there own tecture, when it comes to that we need to be able to clone models and change the texture reference.

All my flags are right down to the right filetype, and image size, so I am not sure what is causing the issue.

Getting new sets of flags soon so we will see if it goes away then.
