    Default Retraining

    Hey,

I was just wondering what the rules were on units being filled up with men again. For example, my spartan hoplites would have a battle, suffer some heavy casualties, perhaps 150 out of the 242 in the unit and then wen i send them back to sparta, the next turn they would be back to 242. Now i though maybe it was to do with sending them back to the city they were trained in. But when i sent my athenian hoplites back to athens, nothing happened. So i was just wondering what the deal is with that?

Also, in another thread i read about waypoints on the battlefield? Years and years of playing rome and ive no idea what they are lol!

    Cheers

Units are not retrained automatically - there is a retain box on the recruitment bit of the interface. The only way that this could happen is with the automerge function - but this is at the end of the turn or if you press 'M' (I believe).

Waypoints - shift and right mouse click. Up to a dozen waypoints are allowed. This allows you to direct your units to move in other than a single straight line (they do it in many straight lines). RTFM!

Yeah, the retrain box is what I'd always thought, but this time I hadn't even queued anything! Literally all I had done was put my men back in the city and pressed end turn. So I don't know :s

Aha...will have to try this asap! Cheers mate

    (btw, rtfm?)

    Read The F* Manual......

I presume you can guess what the 'F' stands for. Please don't post back with the answer though.

It's used a lot in IT. A bit like the JFDI methodology - Just F* Do It (requires no planning). We had a team meeting once when the team leader stated that we would be using this methodology for a small piece of work - someone (not young - they had worked in the Merchant Marine before) asked what it was much to their embarassment.....

    Gotcha.

Just to clarify, I got rome the day it came out, I was 14 at the time and didn't intend reading th book lol. So...yeah, that's pretty much why I haven't read the f manual.

Saying that...did the eras box set come with the individual manuals? Because I've no idea where my orig rome box is...

On the RTW BI disk there is a PDF called RBI_PC_MG_UK.pdf which contains the RTW BI manual.

On the RTW Gold DVD-ROM there are a set of files called ROMETW_Gold_xxx.pdf which contains the RTW and the RTW BI manuals in a single pdf.

The 'xxx' is AUS, DEU, ENG, ESP, EXP, FRA and ITA'

I think that's a LOTFD..... (look on the f disk.....)

i started playing PC games when i was about 8, and i always read the manual before playing. nowadays, i'll usually glance at it, just to get the jist of the game, and play the tutorials, and work from there. so, age is no excuse.

Meh, indeed. No excuse. Maybe I should have RTMROASGCIL (read the manual regardless of age, sex, gender, culture and intelligence level...obviously)

no, i found the manual for E:TW to be completely inadequate! there's nothing on what the hell you're supposed to do with the trading areas (the areas around the globe that you can send ships to, but there are no provinces), for example.

I don't think I even read the manual. I took a very brief look while getting the keycode off the back and didn't bother reading it.

It's not that hard to work out what the trading areas as for.

There are some tricks - if you move a ship out of your fleet that's trading move the whole fleet off and then all but the one ship back!

At the moment no-one will attack your fleets while they are on the trading areas. I am sure that when that problem is fixed it will come as a shock.

Eras does have manuals for all the games. It may be worth a read, as I just re-read RTW manual and had completely forgotten that you could merge two units that were under strength, to make one unit.

    See post #2....

    @Gez
There is one way that this can happen automatically - through scripting. I know that this feature is in RTR VII TIC by default and needs to be edited out.

As RS1.5 does not use scripts then this can't happen.

    I only just remembered this.
