Just noticed something today.

So I was fighting a battle against those dastardly Italian states yesterday and I was looking really closely at my flag bearer, I swear that could see him moving his mouth like he was talking or something, now I could just be seeing things but I'm wondering if they actually added facial animations, can anyone else confirm this?

That explains the bad battle AI, the blinking animation is bugged and the soldiers have there eyes shut during most of the battle.

I like that. Wish they gave more variety in the faces though.

They are varied enough as is on ultra, anything more would just mean more things to tax your machine with and more people at CA working on faces. You don't get different soldier faces on settings lower then ultra (example even on High all the units have the same faces).

No, mine is on Ultra and all the faces are the same. The facial hair is slightly varied but the faces themselves are exactly the same. It looks dumb because m2 had more variety. Everything on ultra here.

Well then I guess it's just personal taste but in CA's defence the faces in M2 were not as detailed or animated as they are here. We might see more variety with modders and maybe even from CA when they are done fixing the bigger issues.

In medieval times there was no single uniform, average peasants wore whatever they could get and knights wore there coat of arms and used armor they bought. In the 18th century soldiers were issued a uniform so they had little variety.

Yes they do. I noticed it on the first day since I always like to zoom in. It`s not perfect, but still quite amazing. I`m surprised that few posts have been made about this. But then a lot of people tend to play their games quite far away from the soldiers, and of course game problems have prevented people, like me, from pointing out this nice little touch.

Ergh I really wish I could play on Ultra. It doesn't even give me options above medium settings lol.

HOW TO UNLOCK GRAPHICS SETTINGS:

1. Locate the Empire: Total War preferences file. Not sure about Vista, but on XP its default location is C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts
for vista its C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Empire\scripts

You will have to allow hidden files to be seen to find this

2. Open up the file and find the line:

gfx_video_memory 0; # gfx_video_memory <int>, Override available video memory (bytes) #

3. Change the value "0" to something bigger. It uses bits so just do like 100000000000 the idea is to make the number higher than the memory in your video card in bits.

be sure to back up this file before you start messing with it so you dont royally screw something up.
