Hmmm I'll look into it. See if you can find me battalion flags for Austria and United Provinces instead.

I looked up a couple reference works about historical flags at my university library that sound intriguing, so I'll try to get there to take a look some time this weekend. In the meantime I'll keep my eyes open for any possible battalion flags for those nations during my searches.

Ferdinand II integrated the picture of the Virgin Mary into the Austrian flag during the Thirty Years´ War. From that time the white flag of the Sovereign's personal regiment the Habsburgs (until 1915 the flag of the Imperial Regiment) carried the image of Mary on one side. The commanders of the remaining regiments decided on the appearance of the individual regimental flags. After 1745 the flag borders were flame-shaped in black-and-gold, and red-and-white. Once flags began to be made from painted silk, the size and weight of military flags was greatly diminished. For almost 100 years flags continued to be made in this fashion (painting the symbols on silk). The individual flag characteristics have since been expressed in banner ribbons; it has remained common practice up to the present day to write dedications on the ribbons.
    http://aeiou.iicm.tugraz.at/aeiou.en...on?LANGUAGE=en
That gives a brief description of the borders of the "Personal Regiment" of the Habsburg monarch... perhaps that would be a suitable flag for every battalion to carry? (Since we cannot simulate loyalty in individual regiments, perhaps we should have them carry a regimental flag that was directly loyal to the rule him/herself). It also references a depiction of the Virgin Mary on the flag... I'll try to find an image of this flag.

Sorry for the rather "unprofessionalism" of the sources I've referenced... Hopefully the library will hold some better stuff.

    EDIT:

Austrian (and also some French and British) battalion flags from the Seven Years' War:

    http://www.rofur5.de/rofur-flags/lis...krieg-engl.htm

Sadly, they don't zoom in further. Luckily, the standard bearer at the top of the page is slightly zoomed in, which gives a better look at an Austrian battalion. Ergh, I wish they zoomed in; you can see in the Austrian battalions that a couple carry the Virgin Mary as mentioned above, but they're too small to make out better details.

    EDIT EDIT:

Woops, didn't realize, the standard bearer at the top is carrying basically what is implemented in-game now. Perhaps one of the smaller images with the white background/ Virgin Mary are more of what you're looking for.

When I play as Saxony and turn into a republic, I get a big red flag... I was wondering if that is what it should be? Doesn't seem right, just putting it out there!

Do you mind doing a Screenshot? The current Republican Saxony Flag (which will be changed in next update) should be this:

    And @KipKay-

I've come up with an Austrian Faction Flag based on the Hapsburg Standard that seems to have been the predominant national flag of the time. Ignore specific research for now and do a more general research of all nations that might need a new flag. Here's the Proposed Faction Flag:

I'd also like to say that for the next update I plan on realizing some of the scope of this mod by including Sound effects changes to Muskets as well as a full Ottoman Uniform Retexture thanks to Remo.

So the other flags are working, just not the national flag... Hmm... wonder if it's me, if it is then I'm sorry for bringing it up! e.e

Other then that *thumbs up* Your Wurrtemburg ROCKS!

That is weird. I will have to test. Jovanicus are you using any other mods that change the startpos.esf file?

Great mod, but I think the Irish flag is innacurate.

The wording "Erin Go Bragh" just seems wrong to me. I'm pretty sure thats an anglicisation of the Irish phrase. For starters it should be Eireann.

Why don't you use the United Irishmen flag from 1798 for a Republic, which is the one in the vanilla game. And you could use the blue flag for a monarchy:

    Otherwise this mod is great.

I'm Irish by the way, I'm not fluent in Irish but it just doesn't seem like a proper Irish phrase.

Erin Go Bragh (also sometimes: Erin Go Braugh) is the Anglicization of a Gaelic phrase used to express allegiance to Ireland.
Speakers of the Irish language assume that the phrase is a corruption of the Irish "Éire go brách", or "Éirinn go Brách", which would be pronounced [ˈeːrʲə ɡə brɑːx]. The term "brách" is equivalent to "eternity" or "end of time", meaning the phrase may be translated literally as: "Ireland until eternity" or "Ireland until the end (of time)". The form "Éirinn go bráth" or "Éire go bráth" which also means "Ireland forever" or literally "Ireland until the Day of Judgment", is also used in Irish.

It should be noted that the Scottish Gaelic phrase "Èirinn gu bràth," which means "Ireland until the Day of Judgment," is pronounced almost identically to the Anglicized phrase. It may seem surprising that a phrase which has come to so strongly represent Ireland could have come not from Irish (Gaeilge) but instead from Scottish (Gàidhlig). However, a Scottish song from the 19th century entitled "Erin-go-Bragh" may have had something to do with this unusual progression.

From my research the Irish "Erin Go Bragh" has been used as a nationalist phrase for a long time. You're right about it being an Anglicized version, but that was the first version that appeared on the flag. The correct Irish Spelling is: Éirinn go Brách which literally means Ireland until Eternity or Ireland until the End (of Time).

EDIT: Looks like Kippy beat me too it. Thanks Kippy!

Was it actually used on a flag though? The official United Irishmen flag is the one used in the vanilla game, which was actually used in 1798, and the monarchy flag would make sense as the blue one which was in use when Ireland had a king.

I find it unlikely that an Irish government would use an anglicised version of a any Irish phrase on the flag. Eirinn Go Brach would make more sense if you insist on using the phrase.

I can confirm the Saxony Flag is glitched for some reason. Started a Revolution, sided with rebels, UI Flags worked, Main Flag didn't

I will need to test to see if this happens to any other nations. Then we'll need to find out why this happens to Saxony. Hopefully its just a typo or something. Kippy can you give me a hand out with testing to see if any other nations have glitched Alternate gov't flags IN game? Don't worry if you don't have the time.

Disturbingly enough, I've found more glitches, possibly linked to the new startpos.esf we posted. I'll have to talk it over with Trasibulos and see if we can figure it out.

EDIT: I will keep a running tally of the nations we find to be working/glitching.

    Confirmed Glitched:
    Saxony, Courland
    Confirmed Working:
    Papal States, Savoy, Persia, Venice

Hey Aykis, I'll do some testing later this evening (I have a chemistry exam in a couple hours I'm still studying for, but I was gonna take the evening to pay some Empire anyways!). Do you have any specific nations you need checked out? I see you've confirmed a couple already, but I'd be happy to check out some others.

I'm going to work in a couple hours so I'll keep testing till then and update the list in the above post. Let me know which ones you've confirmed. We basically need to test all the minor nations (except Colonies, Louisiana, New Spain and Westphalia - they don't have alt gov'ts yet). See the above for ones I've already confirmed.

Alright perfect, I'll try some others after I'm done with my exam. Aykis, what's the proper path to use to open up the flags and view them as files? I assume using the Pack File Manager, correct? I just wanted to check because the first/last/only time I've tried exploring the files resulted in a fresh install

Needed a break from studying... I've found a few more (small images) of battalion flags... appears to be from a wargaming company again:

These are out of our time frame, but worth a look:
    Bavaria (Thirty Years' War)
    Sweden (Thirty Years')

And these are in our time frame:
Baden (Seven Years' War - not sure if these are of any use)

    Russia (Seven Years')

Maybe in a future (... very future lol) release, a possible Baden faction could carry one of those battalion flags.

To open files and view use the pack file manager. Also you need a program that can view tga files. Paint.net is free and can. I checked all the files and they are there so I don't know whats wrong. Error must be in the startpos.esf.

Alright I'm going to work. Kippy see if you can test any of the Minors that aren't on my already confirmed list above.
