    Default Remembering Columbine

    Ten years ago today....

Death and destruction so close to home...

I used to work in the vicinity of the school and have friends who were parents of chilldren attending at the time. Maybe it is just personal, but I thought this shoud be posted.

If you really need a link:

Events are held to mark the 10th anniversary of the Columbine High School massacre in which two former pupils killed 13 people.

Over the years since the shooting there have been several bands and songs that have had some connection with the tragedy at Columbine, whether the artists ...

Anyone see the recent FBI release debunking many of the myths about the attack?

One of the more interesting reads ever.

Well actually as others have said that's been debunked...

But according to my Psych professor more often than not school shooters don't have low self esteem, they have too MUCH. They don't think the lives of the other students are worth much, they are simply inferior.

Another myth. You should check out that article I was talking about, there was no bullying at all, in fact they both had plenty of friends, went to parties, and had dates.

"The Final Report" on Nat Geo did an episode on Columbine, which aired again last night, it debunked many of the things the recent FBI release did.

The things that stuck out to me (and I could be missing some stuff here, this is just from memory):

1.) They didn't target jocks, blacks, Christians or any other group. They targeted everyone, even friends.
2.) They were never part of the "Trench Coat Mafia". They wore trenchcoats to hide their weapons.
3.) They weren't bullied, in fact Dylan Kleibold was known to be a bully himself.
4.) The attack wasn't supposed to play out the way it did, they had planted Propane bombs in the school cafetieria and set them to go off when everyone was in there, then shoot everyone outside as they ran from the flames. The bombs didn't go off, so they said "**** it" and started shooting.
5.) The famous incident with them asking the girl in the library if she believed in God, then shooting her when she said yes never happened.

I have a buddy that teaches there now. Kind of spooky knowing that happened at your place of work, but then what are the odds that something of that magnitude could happen again there?
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Because traffic accidents are just that; accidental. Plus, schools are supposed to be safe havens for kids, not potential killing grounds.

    Very well:

More kids die in other school shooting every year, why care about this one specifically?

Why respond to the thread then? Are you just trolling for outrage? Personal amusement? Or perhaps you do not understand?

Muder is murder. Accidents are accidents. They really have nothing to do with each other. You might as well state that more people die of old age every day. It would be just as inappropriate.

If this happened in your town, I would hope you would care also. Tragic murder close to home should affect a person more than the deaths farther away. The deaths become personal when you know ther faces, speak with their parents, shop the same grocery stores, and attend the same churches. Just because these deaths are far from your home, it does not mean the deaths are not mourned by those who know them.

I never asked you to care. I started the thread for personal reasons. I care.

Its actually amazing 10 years later and some of the false details of it are still repeated, hell there is alot of stuff in the link posted above that I didnt know was false. Seems anytime we have a tragedy on any level there is a mad rush of false information flooding the media and almost none of it gets corrected until years later.....well beyond the point of being useful.

History of the poster should be obvious by now

Largely due to the fact that investigators don't posture the facts they find in an investigation in front of the press until long after an investigation is complete.
