Can't Continue Progressive Game

I looked around trying to see if anyone has had the same problem as me but I can't see that anyone does. When I first start a game it runs fine and the battles run fine as well. The longer the game goes on though it gets choppier and choppier. Eventually just navigating the world map is painful and I can't fight any battles due to crazy lag. Is this a known problem and can I do anything about it? Thanks in advance for your help.

Not sure if it's a common problem but I have experienced something like that in one of my longer campaigns.The turns got noticeably longer around the 1780's and navigating the map was pretty bad too, especially in the Americas.I haven't gotten that far in a campaign since so I don't know if it was a one time thing, a problem with the save file, or if it was a memory leak (I had been playing for like 6 hours straight).I had opted to auto resolve a lot of the battles so I cant really comment on their performance.

Ya I believe it is some kinda memory leak problem too, just been hoping a patch will solve it soon. Feel like I am missing out alot when I am forced to auto resolve like you too...

alot of people have had issues with finishing campaigns but may differ in circumstances. Large slew of problems.

I think it has to do with the ever growing number of variables and considersations and room for conflicts. When you start there are only a few stacks, a few trade routes, a few armies... etc.

I've played campaigns up to 1826. I currently have a Swedish campaign that's at 1829.

At some stage the selection of fleets can be problematic - it takes ages for the fleet to be selected after clicking on the fleet. With the Swedish campaign the armies were moving at very fast rates on the campaign map.

I had some CTDs when selecting fleets but since I've been adding a sloop to each fleet I've not had this problem.

Really? I noticed the CTDs went away when I added 12 steamships to each fleet!!

(not really folks - I wish it were that simple)

You seem not to believe that this is a solution. But it could be if you think about the following: The bug resulting in CTDs from selecting fleets is a problem that has to do with the pathfinding and the longer range of ships on the campaign map due to technological advances like sextant, copper bottom and topgallant sails. If those are buggy, adding a sloop would nullify the advantages in range and perhaps so help against this bug. Just my theory- I stopped with Empire for now out of frustration, until the major issues are solved, so I did not try it.

And to answer the question of the OP if that is a common problem: for me it is, for others perhaps not. I have made this wonderful poll http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=240900 to find out how many are affected with gamebreaking bugs.

i have the same issue, i was hoping that if i managed to avoid building any form of large navy and sticking to land conquest that the issue would go away (shame as the naval aspect is supposed to be a major selling point).

Sadly it was not to be, as soon as you get ta=ech mentioned in the thread or late in the game it all goes to

I am still playing but not for much longer, shame because i really do like this game!
