To get better performance on Medieval then it is recommended to have 1GB RAM, it makes the game load faster, exit faster, etc. but for in-battle performance you will need a better graphic card or lower your current graphics. Post your specs.
Cleaning out your HD from other useless programs and such won't do much on the game. But if you can't buy RAM memory then you could exit out of programs/applications before starting the game. As for in-game battles then the only way to speed it up is to get a better graphic card.

What helps is to close background programs like messengers, virus scanner, firewall (last two if you are not online) and stuff like that.
