I can find this story in The Scotsman, but no other big UK paper's site. How wierd that they thought it wasn't worth covering. Smells like racism to me.

From a legal point of view, I doubt anything wrong was done. I'm not sure the terrorism act makes this illegal. There is no evidence he even intended to do anything about his threats AFAIK. Wasting police time is pretty much what it amounts to.

ppppffff the police probably checked if the guy had the material/capabilities to actually build a bomb, or if he was a simple lunatic idiot. Evidently he was in the latter category.
If he was a muslim he would get the same treatment, once that it was clear that he wasn't in any terror cell and wasn't actually planning any real terror attack he would be released, and he'll probably get some nice money too after a sue against the brit police.

Don't know how concrete it is (as it's just a response, not a formal letter), but I doubt he was serious, I think more a of a man making a bad judgement or thinking he could get away with a prank call.
