Well, this is it... Look at this screen from the endresults from a battle of my 5th legion with a full 20 unit Gallic army. EVERY single unit was part of the fight, the casualties and kills were fairly equally distributed across the cohorts of my legion, as it should be. Here it is possible to rotate your troops that are fighting, send in reinforcements to relieve hard pressed parts of the battle, without the distressed units already having routed.

This particular battle was with a newly appointed general with only 2 stars, so my casualties were slightly higher than normal...

I hardly ever relieve units from battle. I just reinforce the line to prevent being pushed into that crescent shape. But nice nice battle.

i do this and always end up with three small cresents

I only do that with cavalry. Since tactics I use are good enough to keep me under 10% losses in main legions. So far I have raised my kill ratio by 0.11
