Cradle of filth and Dimmu borgir have some harder stuff. You might like them if you like some of the bands you mentioned though. but seriously? Slipknot? They're like the reason I didn't get into any metal save industrial metal earlier.

On a somewhat related note, I decided to check out slayer the other day on youtube, and I don't see what all the fuss is about. They aren't terribly hard at all!

@Pontifex, if you are into Screamo and stuff you should check out UK based band Enter Shikari, ive seen them live and they are really good, not really my kind of music though.

Screamo is hardcore punk with screaming (and emo overtones), hasn't got much to do with metal

I need it. I'm making a playlist of metal that Ill listen to when I'm doing some frantic gaming, feel like doing some headbanging, want to teach my ears a lesson, am plain butt-stomping mad (yes I stomp butts, you wanna fight about it?) and other such things I do when I listen to metal.

Anyway I'm looking for suggestions, anything'll do. I listen to mudvayne, slipknot, metallica, rammstein, mastodon, killswitch engage, soad, rage against the machine (thats not very metal though), sabbath, ministry, powerman 5000, lamb of god, iron maiden, motley crue etc

I'd classify them under hard rock, but they certainly have metalesque elements, especially in their last CD.

Its Horses for courses and I can understand that. As you can probably see, they are my favourites along with Tool and the Red Hot Chillies (Up to By the Way, Stadium Arcadium was all wrong)

In my opinion, Mastodon are more talented than Slayer, and more groundbreaking. But Slayer are awesome, Seasons in the Abyss comes to mind...
