Default Help with adding texture to custom unit

Hey, I'm creating a custom unit (Scottish Line Infantry) for the British. This is my first try at creating a mod for empire.

I have finished my textures, which are edited highland clansmen textures saved as scottish_line_diffuse, scottish_line_gloss_map, and scottish_line_normal. The problem is that I don't know how to add them to my custom unit.

Could someone please tell me where my texture files need to be and anything else I need to do to get the texture files to correspond to the unit?

Do I need to create a 3D mesh file for this to work?

I put in all the files using the line infantry 3D mesh (euroline is the file name for it) and my textures (edited from clansmen). This worked fine (showed the textures), but the animations with the kilts were messed up. I thought this was because I used the line infantry animation (meant for units with trousers) for a unit with a kilt, so I redid all the stuff using the euro_highland_regular 3D mesh.

Now I get a CTD about 15 seconds after starting the game (still on black loading screen with the gold text, before getting the gold arrow cursor). I've checked and I think that everything is in the right place, modeled after Mr. Thib's tutorial. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am not sure if the line infantry model is compatible with the highlander model? i tried something similar when i was trying to change the flat caps on some of my US milita and minutemen and after 20 attempts i realized that CA have these units hardcoded!!, this may be a similar problem for you and this texture!!

Does the line infantry model need to be compatible with the highlander model? I am using textures that are edited highlander textures and my custom unit is a line infantry type unit. For the 3D mesh, I first used the line infantry mesh but the kilt animations were messed up so I tried using the highlander model instead and this results in CTD.

Thats ya problem mate, you cannot switch the units around!!! so line infantry can only be modded with line infantry! and highlander can only use its own model!!

Cmon CA i know you are seeing these posts and having a good chuckle in your offices in LA and the rest of the world, please release your model convertor, as this is becoming very frustrating to all us modders out there!! in turn i will let you use my US army in your expansion pack!!

Also I have my 3 texture dds files inside a folder named textures, which is inside another named unitmodels, which is in my empire data directory. I still get the CTD.

If it helps, here's a screenshot of the animation problem with the kilts and my mod pack so far...
