How many people believe that Arion and Phalanthus were really rescued by dolphins?
Patton Jr. - "Rommel... you magnificent bastard, *I read your book*!"
Patton Jr. - "Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country."

LOL! Anyway, I didn't get that from Wikipedia. I got it from Herodotus' Histories. And I bet they were rescued by dolphins. Happens all the time nowadays. http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/21689083/

I hate both Aristotile and Socrates...Heraclitus is the best...
Socrates
I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think - Socrates
Barbarus hic ego sum, quia non intellegor ulli - Ovidius
The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool - William Shakespeare
A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything - Friedrich Nietzsche
Agreed with above...
Does anyone remember reading about the Lelantine War somewhere? Was it in The Histories? Anyway, I read a snippet somewhere about this war and could find no other info on it. I remember reading about speculation as to the scope and magnitude of the war(possibly involving the entirety of Hellas, like the Peloponnesian). If memory serves correct, I believe the war took place about 1-3 centuries before the Heg time period. I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any significant info on this (please, no wiki) because this war probably helped shape the city-states and their alliances(besides dorian, ionian, etc.) and attitudes. I've always had the utmost curiosity about this war, because it seems it may be part of the bridge from history to mythology in Ancient Greek history...

I remembered that I read about a great war greek war in The Peloponnesian War by Thucydides (it's a masterpiece, like Xenophon's works), but didn't know the particulars...
