    Default Game works fine BUT!!

Guys, I have followed the rules to the letter. I clean install RTW, then 1.3, 1.5 and then 7.0 and the patch. The only strange thing was when i was installing the 7.0, was when it finished installing, the installer just disappeared!! Even when i did the patch for 7.0. So I click on ROME and the Mod starts up fine and works except.. i remember when I played 6.4, the unit did not have the banners and it was soo awsome that almost every battle all my reinforcements came on the map. This is not happening for me. I checked the preferences.txt and everything is where it should be. FALSE is on unit banners ect. But I am still getting banners and I hate banners. Also, my rienforcements dont come on the map until later on like in the normal rome.
I expected this mod to work great on my new pc. I am unsing windows vista 64 bit now. Does not make a difference??? Any help would be highly appreciated.. Please, i really wanna play this mod.
    Thanks

yes this is a vista problem - if you install to programme files vista for reasons best know to itself will move files around (they still work they are just a nightmare to find)

your best bet is to remove the game and do a completely new install somewhere else on your computer (ie not in programme files, i've got my game installed to D drive), if not it's something thats you can live with but you'll need to have a look around for the actual place that some files are kept

YEp, Vista is a nonfriendly RTW system. Make sure you do as Raglan pointed out, it should help out nicely.

Erm...as far as I know, this part at least is normal.

Vista isn't that big of a problem with RTW, but there are a few tweaks you need to do, unless you install on a different drive than C:

I got a new computer with Vista-64 bit OS, and installed Rome TW. Made another copy of Rome and installed SPQR. First thing I noticed was no preference folder or text. I went to the main install (vanilla) copied the preference folder, pasted to the Main directory of SPQR. Made the changes I wanted, started a game and nothing, didn't work. Quit the game and went back to the main directory of SPQR clicked on the preferences folder to check text and noticed where you change views and organise there was a new folder "Compatibility Files" with another preference text in it. So I edited this one and it worked. I've read in these forums of other ways of locating game files but at the time Vista was new to me. I just knew I needed a preference text.

The trick is where you install the game to.

The standard folder will be 'C:\program files (x86)'. If you install the game there any files you change (including saves, replays, preferences.txt etc) will all go to the 'virtual store'.

When I first used Vista I installed to the folder and kept on having to remember where the 'virtual store' was. I messed up the registry and ended up re-installing Vista 64bit. I then created a folder on my 'G'' drive called 'G:\program files (x86)'. As this is not a 'protected' folder then the files that were in the 'virtual store' are now where you'd expect them under XP. If you don't have a second drive you can easily create a new folder and install any games there.

For details on the virtual store and other vista bits check out the first and last links in the first post in the following thread (apologies for it being in the RTR part of the forum): http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167821

    Hope that helps some people.

Ya, tbh my comp came with it when I bought it, and at the time I didn't have another OS readily available. And tbh, I'm kind of lazy. Yeah, I can try to tweak what I got to perform at its best, but I don't think Vista is bad enough for it to justify me formating my disks and reinstall a new OS for it...

i think everyone forgets that xp wasn't brillient when it first came out, it was more linear to previous versions though so people didn't find it so hard to adapt to

Compared to 98,2000 and millenium xp was better, its mostly regular home users that defends vista cause the graphical interface (aero) appel to them and the real nice tools like UAC totally loose its purpose since many turn it off. Readyboost is rather nice but i doubt many even know how to use it. You can use xp with windows blinds to have vista lookalike if you like flashy OS....Sorry for being off topic but i couldnt help myself
