United Provinces, they have the strongest navy at the start of the game.

Lol, when I saw "Big Three", I assumed Britain, Spain, and United Provinces. Who is your three? France, Portugal, Sweden, and Denmark are my next four I think (Ottoman/Barbary Galley spams don't count).

Venice? Lol
Spain, France and Britain are my "Big Three."
Wow, this is really picking up! Are pirates a big problem for UP? They were for me when I played Spain.
Why do you say UP is a big one? I mean, look at how much land Spain can get! I easily beat everyone in prestige and probably in money and such too by 1725 or so, except maybe France.
UP is great because of the Fluyt. It's like the Spanish Galleon, not quite as powerful but cheaper and only 2 turns. It can also be built in any port.
Also, check any of your campaigns and look at the trade routes. If the UP isn't #1 in trade income it will be close.
I'd put the UP in the top 3 and taake France out. I don't know if they would even be the top of those. America's ships have extremely strong hulls. Especially those 24lb frigates, those things are awesome.

The UP for sure. Portugal also has a good navy, though, and starts with a lot of ships.
Doesnt everyone has the same ships? :o
United Provinces, thanks to the Fluyt.
Portugal and Denmark aren't even listed as options, and yet you include the likes of Poland-Lithuania, Austria and Prussia!
That's nice...
Edit: I'm assuming you mean France, Great Britain and Spain as "the big three". Why you wouldn't include the United Netherlands as one of the top three naval powers is also well beyond me...![]()

I don't really understand the question. All navies are equally strong, since they can all build heavy first rates and all other ships. The only variations are fluyts and galleons and some others, and these are all of minor importance.
Fluyt's are very useful in the start of the game. Only thing that can beat them is the Spanish Galleons, but it's a close call. They are pretty much the ideal ships to get the trade points under your command, especially because they are cheaper and build faster then the Spanish ships.
ottoman, up, prussia![]()

It's certainly not Prussia; my navy gets handed a lot of defeats regardless of what I try and with other nations I do a fairly good job. I went with UP for above stated reasons by others.
