    Default Region/Town Wealth

This is a horribly silly question, likely, but it's not explained anywhere.

What makes up your income from a province? Tax, of course, but is the town/region wealth added to this? So when you upgrade a building and it says +400 to region wealth, is that +400 income each turn?

    Thanks in advance.

Wealth is the assets (in this game only money) that are owned by private citizens. With more wealth means more investment and a larger base to tax from. When you tax, you take money away from the citizens so wealth goes down, but income (the amount of money that your government collects) goes up.

high wealth will make your people loyal and increase the "power" of the upper class but if you tax your people you mgiht get a rebelion.

Town wealth is the income of everything in the region. You tax that, so you're getting, say, 30% of the 10,000 wealth in the region. So the effect of building something is to increase town wealth by 400 and you've got a 25% tax rate, you're only getting 100 per turn from building it

Bascially, its how much money your citizens are getting (at a growing rate). Needless to say, the more money your citizens own, the more you get out of taxes.

So its good to have wealth growing, because if you don't the wealth will decrease, which means less taxes for you, and probably some very unhappy citizens who just happen to have a guilloteen (yea I spelled it wrong, crucify me) with your name on it.

Careless, that is very helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for the answers, guys, I guess it wasn't such a dumb question after all!

So basically, a region with no tax provides nothing to you as far as income?

    No tax income.

It still might provide you trade income.

Well, if you mean by having a region exempt from taxes, then yes you will not recieve income from taxes in that region. You will, however, have massive bonuses to your town growth and wealth gain.

However, yes a region which provides no tax income provides no income as far as taxes go. You still get money from trade from materials and crops from regional farms and such. Just no taxes.

The total amount of wealth gets taxed, so if you have 1,000 wealth and 50% taxes, you will get 500 from that province.

Buildings and taxes work two ways. First, you get an increase in total wealth (and therefore a large increase in total taxable wealth) for constructing some buildings like mines, but they do not give you any wealth per turn.

Secondly, you get "wealth per turn" that some buildings (and enlightenment tech) gives you which increases the wealth of your province X amount each turn. Taxes retard this rate of increase and can make it go into the negatives (meaning you loose a few points of wealth each turn) if you don't have enough buildings/tech to counteract the taxation.

So to summarize, buildings give you an one-time increase in total wealth, and they can give you more wealth per turn (or both). Taxes tax the total wealth and slow down the rate at which wealth grows per turn.
