I am new to the forum.

I just recently Installed RTW on my laptop and I was frustrated that the soldiers (Mainly ones with shields) glitch up and it looks like they all cramped up into a ball. All I can see is the shield, weapon and the "ball" of them. Sorta like some one took the soldier and curled it up into a ball.

This happens with Calvary, General, and soldiers. The only thing not effected is the Velities or something and the archers.

I played this on my desktop computer and everything worked fine. The demo even worked fine on my laptop. What is wrong

    Please help!

    Welcome to the forum.

As florin80 has posted - a screen shot would be helpful. You can use photobucket (www.photobucket.com) or imageshack (www.imageshack.us) to 'host' your image.

Please also post the technical specs of your laptop - graphics card etc.

Couldnt get to PhotoBucket or ImageShack

Hope you can figure out whats wrong.

I dont want cramped soldiers fighting >_<
It mainly effects only soldiers with shields. Archers and Skirmishers are fine. (as you can see in the back)

If this was ten years ago, I'd say you're trying to cram it into too small a screen. Areyou trying to force the resolution onto your screen?

No, I started the game it appeared like that. When I installed it it was like that.

Do I have to change to resolution?

EDIT: I changed the resolution many times but they are still "cramped" together. What is the problem ?
EDIT: Im going to try and re-install the game. Now it wont even start..
EDIT: Re-Installed the game still "Cramped" changed to diffrent resolutions, nothing works. Does no one have a solution?

I do believe I suffer from the same problem. Here's a screenshot for you...

PS: When a soldier dies, he magically pops into a working model, looking perfectly normal.

I have the excact same graphics card as Cohort, but I have a HP Compaq 6715b with Vista Ultimate, 2 GB RAM and 1,8 GHz CPU.

What about other games, do you have Medieval and if you do does this happen in it as well?

I have Medieval II, and models work normally there. The glitch is only RTW-related (haven't checked BI yet, but I will).

EDIT: Tested on BI, found almost no problems, except for armored horses.

The problem is both for Eastern Empire horses, and Sassanid horses...

Post a screen of what your graphic options are - someone may be able to spot the obvious. I have a feeling it may be unit shaders...

    The folliwing is from a mod but the details on the screen are the same;

    Well, ok, here's my options:

But changing the shaders won't work, tried it already. Changing resolution doesn't help either, but things get just a little better if I set the unit details to lowest...

And yes, I've tried reinstalling RTW, no effect...

try changing the unit detail to high or low. that might be your problem since it might be possible that your GPU is too new for the game's lower models. Otherwise, the disk might be scratched or you modded the animations, wether by accident or on purpose.

Okay, I put the Unit detail to lowest, and it fixed it. THe models appear now

But now they have pointy legs and arms >_<

Thats normal. on the lower settings, the game doesn't like feet or hands, so it makes them pointy and unrendered.

OK, make sure that you've got unit shaders on - that fixes the pointy feet problem. If it messes up the other graphics you have three choices

    1) play with units that look OK (lowest settings) but with pointy feet (unit shaders off)
    2) play with distorted units
    3) spend money on a better graphics card

Well, number 3 is ruled out (for both of us), as it's integrated. We both have laptops...

Then buy a desktop and quit complaining.
