    Default Oh No NOOOOO!

For around 100 turns now i put my gentlemen in the cathedral instead of puting them inside the college. Imagine that i was wondering how weird was the fact that the scientific research tree never automatically appeared.I have reached year 1748 with Great Britain ive conquered 25 regions and i am so frustrated with that thing that i might restart the campaign aigain

The really troubling aspect to all this is that you managed to get 25 regions in 100 turns without researching techs.

You must have thought it was another bug and with the state of the game it would have been a fair assumption.

He'll still research, but at a slower rate.

He could still research techs, he just did not get the bonuses for his gentlemen.

Not if he never opened the research screen, and it sounds like that's what happened

Heh, I did the same thing for a few turns on my first game. It was the building "Church School" that made me think it was a research building until I investigated further. :o

I made the same mistake at the begining as well - the school and church look so similair.

Also, researching techs without gentlemen is much slower than with. On one of my games I had finished the tech tree by about 1750, but if I had had no gentlemen, I doubt I would have gotten halfway through it.

That's it! CA should remove gentlemen and priests while only keeping rakes as secret agents/spies/assasins.
This way you won't end up running out of technology possibilities.

I don't see the fun in moving around gentlemen and put them in schools or universities to actually make them do something. Want to steal tech? Why can we not use a rake? Having schools an universities is already enough to do research? Sure it will take longer to research a tech, but Rome wasn't built in one day either.

I also have no desire to move priest from spot a to spot b to 'convert' the population. Why not build a church and make it convert the population on an abstracted level?

Maybe your gentlemen will have an epiphany and still discover something if you keep them in the church long enough.

I very frequently forget both to send the gentleman into the school and to start researching when I begina new game. Then I remember in 1701... or 02... or 05. I can understand your frustration though. 1748!

The gentlemen point you make is understandable, but priests have to be mobile in order to be able to convert enemy populations.

Don't feel bad, OP. For my entire first campaign, I thought just having them helped the research rate. It never occurred to me to even put them in a building.

    Oh, and...

Thread moved to Gameplay and Strategy Discussion.

Playing at England I never had much success stealing research from other colleges and Universities, but now playing the Grand Campaign as Prussia, my Gentleman are stealing things left, right and centre! Obviously a better class of Gentleman in Prussia!

Agents are more usefull if you use them to block bridges , just put one there and no army (even your army) can pass through

Even if you don't research anything, you'll still get the tech when everyone else has researched it.

Don't start a new campaign, it's not too late now. You can also buy the techs from other countries (but they will cost you quite a bit, 20-30000 for early tech, 30-60000 for mid level techs, and 100000+ for the highest techs.

Why does he have to buy them?

If you declare war on someone, and capture about 3 or 4 provinces, they will generally give you about 5 techs for a peace treaty in my experience - and you get 3 or 4 provinces as well from it.
