    Default A possible idea on how to play

    Hi all, I have come up with a little idea and was wondering what people thought of it. First off i'll ask if anyone has played 'world in conflict' online? Basically in that game online you choose a 'class' if you will to play. You can choose to be an infantry, tank, air or support commander. Each 'class' has a certain few units and all players with different classes have to work together to achieve victory.
    I was wondering if a similar set up could be successful in empire total war. You could have INftanry, cavalry and support. Where support would include artillary and (to keep it from being dull) control skirmishers or mele infantry. It would mean that teams would have to be in constant contact etc and would add some interesting dimensions on online play. For example there have been many historical victories or blunders that have depended upon communication. Anyway that is my rough idea, if any one likes it or would like to add ideas to it feel free. I think another class would be needed so 4v4 8v8 could be used or you could just have duplicate roles i.e two cavalry commanders. Just imagine being able to field what you really enjoy. A large cavalry force or infantry one. Anyway see what you guys think !

    Yes this could be very tactical, but only if both teams have TS.
    Maybe even more cool if theres 1 spectator who gives commands to the classes while they micro their units he has the macro in his hands

    yeh, you could have a commander that dictated to all others. I think if this method were to be used it would definately have to be planned carefully with a few house rules chucked in here and there. I was hoping there might be enough people interested to maybe organise one to see what happens

    Talked about this with a good mate, a few weeks ago. we playing mp as a team for years- guess what, he avoid to trust me and himself.
    seriously, we dont try because our action and reaction is rooted to help the other person if possible or planned- not to act as one person.
    But also i know he is hungry for rankpoints, for me it doesnt matters. So i would suggest to set up two teams for a "smoothy-saturday-afternoon-4vs4 (1vs1)-try"...

    We just need:
    2 Channels in TS
    8 people who are willing to try
    and a army setup planned here

    (if someone have interest- 2. may would be fine for me...)

    well we can give it a try any time, just got to get some more interest in it. Maybe we should try and organise some bits and bobs now.

    Infantry commander
    All line infantry
    Grenadiers
    Elites
    light infantry

    Support
    All artillery
    Skirmishers?

    Cavalry
    All types of cavalry

    Simple set up really. Maybe each game would allow armies to manouvere for so long so that commanders could move their troops where needed. Teamspeak or vent is a must. I suppose ts would be better as it is free for a server or something.

    No one else think this would be a good idea?

    in theory yes this could work and work better than regular everyone takes their own army. this is because the sum of four armies acting as one could bring local superiority against any foe. moreover, when people get to specialize they can be more efficent with the unit(s) they are specializing in.

    BUT

    in practice, you need voice comms as has already been mentioned, but you also need a high degree of organization and integration among the players. this is not something that can be done effectivly in a small period of time, but would take a lot of practice over a long period

    a variation of this that does work is 4 v 4, everyone only gets one unit. those type games are pretty fun, and the tem that communicates best usually wins.

    Thats true, it would need a long time of practise IF the team want to out and beat other single players in a way like the theory promise- but thats not the intension in my thoughts.

    This could be a new styl of mp gaming and if 8 people have a lot of fun and get some practise, i´m pretty sure other people will follow. Kind of own and new gameplay league... sounds a bit liftet, but...

    What about to set the light inf to the support? Otherwise, i think, the Infcaptain would have a lot of things to do...

    I would like to try my best as an inf- or cavcaptain.

    Ok i think your suggestion is good as infantry commanders will have alot to focuss on as they are the back bone of the army. Would be a good idea for light inf to be with the artillery so they can then have more to do. When i first put forward this idea I didn't think it would be taken up by the whole but by a few who are interested and enthusiastic enough to get together and discuss tactics army set up, organise some games and have a good time!     This idea could start out with some smaller scale games? See how units and teamwork can work?
