    Default MTW music for SS

I'll soon be posting a mod that adds the original MTW music into SS. Its way more epic and atmospheric. It mostly affects the battlemap music but there is some for the strat map also.

However, if you have MTW installed on your PC, you can do it manually as follows:

    1) Open the The Creative Assembly\Medieval - Total War - Gold Edition\Sounds\Music folder

    2) Copy all the files there into Medieval II Total War\mods\Stainless_Steel_6\data\sounds\music

    3) Rename the new files by replacing the spaces in the filenames with '_'' (an underscore), eg:

Arab Battle 1.wav rename to Arab_Battle_1.wav
Euro Strat Summer 1.wav rename to Euro_Strat_Summer_1.wav

    4) Install the contents of one of the attached .zip files into your Stainless_Steel_6\data folder:
-if you want the MTW music to replace the SS music on the battlemap, download descr_sounds_music_1.zip
-if you want the MTW music to complement the SS music on the battlemap, download descr_sounds_music_2.zip

    5) Open the Stainless_Steel_6\data\sounds folder and delete all the .idx and .dat files

    6) Run the game again and let it rebuild the sounds. This will take a while.

    7) Enjoy much better ingame music

It doesn't work for me, I did everything and the music stays the same.

Look at your SS6/data/sounds/music.dat. It should be about 655MB after the game rebuilds it.

If you still don't hear anything delete all the .dat and .idx in the sounds folder.

Did you use the file that complements the music or replaces it?

I deleted the SS music folder, and the music text file, long time ago, so I could have original MTW2 music. Then I saw this, and did what you said there, I used the complement that replaces it.

Awesome thanks for that PB! I have MTW installed on my PC not only for nostalgia reasons but also to give me ideas for modding. Now I can put the great music back in too!

It's like a gift you ever wanted but never dared to ask for. Thanks for that file, memories came back with todays war against Moors (I still think that Arabic music from Medieval 1 is one of the best game soundtracks EVER)

Oh I forgot to mention: instead of renaming all the music files manually, get a program such as RenameMaster and it'll replace all the spaces with underscores at the click of a button.

Is it possible to do this by taking the music track direct off the med cd without having the game actually installed? also what about the Pertwee quotes, i would love to have some of the general flees quotes back

The installation time is very short. I had actually borrowed the game from someone else for the sole purpose of using the music and the installation had to be less than 5 minutes.

Some great music though. After so many hours of playing medieval 2, the inclusion of a wider variety of music extends the replay factor.

I might be getting a little ahead of myself here but now i started thinking about it i would love the screams of battle and the clash of metal sounds back aswell. Tbh the entire set of sounds from med 1... hmmm maybe best to just start with the music eh ?
