    Default Technology too cheap?

I think technology researches WAY too fast. As Prussia, with 3 universities, I researched the whole tree by 1750. Is it even historically accurate to have massed produced rifles in 1750? This was on VH campaign difficulty(though i dunno if that effects research rates).

Yeah I think that researching should be slower.

Or maybe more complex. Like if you pick X you cant research Y.

Like imagine I picked military to be main doctrine, the enlightment/industrial tech trees would have less options or the effects of said E/I tech, on your faction would be inferior to other factions that picked Enlightment or Industrial to be their main doctrines. But! You would get the best military tech's possible compared to a faction that picked E/I.

I think it would add a whole new level and replayability....but thats me...

You have a turns per year mod enabled?

Seems like a stretch with 3 universities.

But if you want it to take longer, give this a try

Yes but that would also mean even less unit types. And I dont think I can live with just line infantry, for that to work you need a lot more different techs to research. And a lot more units to unlock, right now I do not think there's enough content for that.

I do still wonder about underhande submersible warfare, what would it unlock?

Really? I have most everything researched as Russia in 1750, but that's Russia with about 6 Universities in almost half of Europe.

I have had about 3-5 universities and have almost all techs at 1774, so I don't think its a stretch. You can either diversify and get some from each tree, or specialize in 1 or 2 and try to tech up fast at the expense of other tech trees.

Quick question time. As everybody knows a modern uni can only be built in your capital. But can you upgrade multiple schools in your capital to modern universities or just one? I release the clamor would be intense, but that'd finally be a reason to build taverns.

    Um... *eyes sig*

It's far too quick in Vanilla even on VH.

Yes, you can upgrade all colleges to modern universities in your home region. You will need some brothels and churches to compensate the clamor.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

It was an awful idea to tie research to the number of colleges and gentlemen anyway. Seriously, the guy that thought of that should be fired. They should've handled research the same way it's done in EU, since it's pretty much the only way to keep things balanced and interesting.

well, there is game-play issue here too. for example, if you were able to research 1-st rates only by 1790, it would take several turns to build your first ones; after that it would take some turns to ship them to any war zone of your choosing; so, you'd be left with only a couple turns to use them in battles before the game would end, if you were lucky that is.

I personally do not find it the idea that awful or unrealistic. More research centers means more research and ability to do more varied, branched-off research at the same time. I am fine with that notion. Maybe the clamor for reform penalty for universities should be higher than it is in the current game.

The clamor for reform is a little too low but most people get a huge amount colleges from conquest and the clamor penalty is easy negated by some dragoons or lower taxes. The point is the tech was designed for one college per faction that way the AI can handle itself but once the player builds 2 or conquers capitols with schools built into it, you will blitz through the tech tree.
