    Default Liberation

Should we be able to liberate "destroyed" factions from their conquerors?

I bring this up, b/c, in case you haven't noticed, I get very irritated when I see major powers defeated. I think it would be cool if we could start wars of liberation. Once we take the country, we can simply turn it back over to its default owner, even if they have been "destroyed". You can do this now, but you have to get them to revolt against you after you have seized their territory back for them, and then they are at war with you and extremely PO'd. I would rather liberate countries and turn them into buffer states if I like.

Additional Notes: (Using IS) While playing as the Italian States today I conquered all of Italy. My last conquest was Venice. right after I conquered it, I made peace with Venice and had to move my troops back to Genoa to put down a rebellion. Well, Austria declares war on me, and took Venice. No Biggie, I'll just beat Austria over the head. I crush the Genoese rebellion, and move back east to find that......Austria had given Venice BACK to Venice!!!

That's what sparked the idea in my mind...Maybe this AI has a few more tricks up its sleeve than we thought it did...It would be nice to know if they were that smart, this is the first game I've played with Prussia steamrolling Poland and Russia, and not the other way around.

Vive L'Emperor! Vive L'Emperor! Vive L'Emperor! I have another suggestion; You get to control everything about a protectorate, you could decide how much money to take, what state to give them etc..

That would be good if you could own them or you can make them free but you can choose what government they should be.

Well it would be nice if you can also decide after liberating them if you want them to be allies, or a protectorate. In the case of a protectorate you should be able to decide which government type they should have and who's heading it (perhaps a family member of yours?)

Don't they already do that? I remember when I first tried a revolution, made every city revolt... I conquered Georgia and Dagestan before that, and when those two cities revolted I saw a stack from each country pop out of nowhere... Or am I mistaking this for something else?

No, you're not mistaken, though most of the others seem to be, with regard to the method already in the game. Simple to do, really. Just don't garrison the newly conquered region's capital, let it rebel and then the nation will reemerge. Voila! You've liberated the country.

that would be an awesome idea,in fact hisotically talking a lots of the major countries of that era and even later used to protect the sovregnity of the minor states, like austria with the minor catholic german states or england with hannover.
if this could be done it certanely the game will be more interesting.

Who voted no? Clearly they have trouble with English...

Excellent idea. I vote we create a new CA in this forum. We will call it the NCA.

Hmm, who could have possibly been the lone "no"?

I really wish they could add this to the game.

Yes. This was one of my favorite features in Hearts of Iron II.

One of the biggest problems with leadership is that sometimes people mistake strength of force as good leadership, when it in reality shows the opposite.

Yes. This would create a whole new layer of diplomacy and global strategy. It would allow for the establisment of a 'forward front', and could perhaps diminish the 'territorial expansion' diplomatic trait, allowing for a 'liberator trait' that could improve relations with smaller nations or something along those lines.

It should be very easy to do for CA. If you conquer a province in which a faction could (re-)emerge you should get a menu saying something like: 1) annex province, 2) liberate faction X

However I'd like to see a menu saying 1) occupy province, 2) annex province, 3) liberate faction: X

    Like this:

Sorry but since this subject touches a small project I'm working on:
Also note that if you take a province during a war just to occupy it (like you do with villages in ETW) and force the enemy to surrender would give you a minor penalty while if you want to take a province with the intention to keep it would result in a severe expansion penalty.

That`s really nice and a very realistic idea. I probably wouldn`t liberate anyone, but still good. Few games actually do this, well CIV4 certainly doesn`t.

    However, who liberates the Player?

But that don`t matter cos he can`t lose anyway.

Sorry for the question but I did't understand you. Are you actually working on that kind of mod, because it would be really nice

I'm just working it out with pen and paper for now. I'm afraid we can't mod it in for now and most likely might not ever.
