    Default Alex.exe

Hey I just started using the alex.exe for RS and i like the better ai but I discovered that i can't uses the schiltrom or shieldwall formations and ive giver almost every spear unit one of these. I was wondering if these abilities can be imported or if you could have alex and bi runing at the same time.

The bi features like the special formations you`ve listed, hording and such are only possible with the bi exe. And you can`t run the game with both at the same time.

Do you need the Alexander files or BI files to use the .exe?

    There are three things you need to do (this assumes you have Alexander already installed on your computer;

    1) Copy the RomeTW-ALX.exe from the Alexander game folder to the one you've set up for RS
    2) Copy the chat_filter.san file from the alexander\data folder to the data folder you've set up for RS
    3) Install RS

The install process will detect that you have Alexander in the target folder. It will install various files that are needed to stop your generals from being immortal (as Alexander in the game won't die of old age) and also set up the shortcut with the correct properties (I think one of the switches is -noalexander).

If you want to use Alexander to an existing RS install then there is some editing of text files. When I did this I used the details that are over at the EB part of the forum. However, it's far easier to reinstall RS onto a RTW Alexander install.

I have an install that has the RTW games installed in this sequence RTW, RTW BI and RTW Alex. I've kept a clean install of RTW BI and RTW Alexander by copying the folders to a new location each time (after making sure that the install has worked by launching the game).

Only a slight correction, the chat_filter.san file should be installed along with the RS mod, only the exe needs to be in the folder where you install RS.

Well you can pick up the game quite cheaply now. It's not essential but I bought it because I was told by someone (Lestat) that it was better.

I've been using it with any RTW mod that I am playing (apart from the RS2.0 beta).

OK, it was such a long time ago since I installed Alex to RS (manually).

The BI.exe is more 'clever' than the standard RTW. More Naval Invasios, better strategising.
Alex.exe beats BI , even more Sea Invasions.

    in short.

Actually I havent noticed much invasions on ALX and its the exe im playing most of the time with, aside some mods that are meant to be played with BI.I think CA made seperate exe for ALX straight up from RTW I dont think they upgraded BI to ALX.

Naval invasions are controlled by the entries in the desc_sm_factions.txt file - there is an entry 'prefers_naval_invasions'.

As you can see from the following Parthia is not set up to do naval invasions and Pontus is.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

In RS1.5 I've seen the free people ship boatloads of armies from Greece and try to get to Iberia with them.

Don't expect to see a naval invasions frequently though.

I'd suggest that you take a copy of your RTW folder (with RTW BI and RTW Alex installed) and install RS to there. It will make sure that you've got a clean RTW available.

Well, if you mean will the 'AI' act like another human - then I think the answer to that is no.

    Have you played RS1.5 before?

Hmmm.. I played BI for a couple of short campaigns. I played one Alexander campaign -it was too short a time period for me (you need to 'rush').

However, I'd suggest at least playing them yourself as after all we all have different preferences.

If you like the BI period I'd suggest having a look at Invasio Barbarorvm: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=113
