The second number in the line above is the number of onagers.
The first number in that line is the total number of units that man those onagers.

Hey...
Does that mean that a group of Roman archer models could man 10 scorpions?
I like pie.
sure but they couldn't fire arrows themselves
I only play as Romans
I was just thinking that in real life the Romans liked to take quite a few scorpions out with them, I just thought it would be cool to actually have a 2 scorpions per cohort.
I like pie.
as i understand it, it was one scorpion per century and one onager per cohort...

that's in a legion, by the way. as far as i'm aware, the auxilia possessed no indigenous artillery. so per legion you have (yes, 59. 1 per century, so 6 per cohort, and there were 9 regular cohorts, so that's 54, and the 1st cohort was made up of 5 double strength cohorts, so it has 5 scorpions, making a total of 59 scorpions). that's a lot of firepower for the ancient world. that said, they weren't usually employed in field battles, but usually during an attack on, or the defence of fortifications. however, they were used in some field battles (Arrian used them in his battleplan against the Alani in 135 A.D.).

So you would say that if I changed to 25 scorpions a unit then I could take one unit out on field and two units for fort attack/defense.
Would that work?
I like pie.
it'd be HUGELY imbalanced... but whatever, i guess so... remember that the units in RS are scaled down from real life, due to engine constraints - an infantry cohort is about 1/3 scale - so if you think about it that way, you should really only have 20 scorpions in a legion (still, ridiculously imbalanced!), and 4 onagers.

I don't think it would really be imbalanced at the end of it. After all, the Romans did pwn in medium range combat. And I would look at other cultures and change their arti amounts to balance it out a little more.
I like pie.
but that also means one unit of scorpions would be ridiculously powerful... i wonder what an army of them would do?![]()

I'ma try it
