No. You create a config file in which you specify that errors should be outputted to a log.
In fact you can output every minute operation of the Medieval 2 engine, what files it's currently opening, what are the things it cannot find, etc, all through the config file.
Take a look at the vanilla launch BAT files and their associated .cfg files to see how the game does it. To create your own and see all of the possible options you can put in config files, see this:
