    Default Show_err

Will show_err work like rome did, and can you use it with io_file first
    Like this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Launcher.exe" -show_err

    ???

No. You create a config file in which you specify that errors should be outputted to a log.

In fact you can output every minute operation of the Medieval 2 engine, what files it's currently opening, what are the things it cannot find, etc, all through the config file.

Take a look at the vanilla launch BAT files and their associated .cfg files to see how the game does it. To create your own and see all of the possible options you can put in config files, see this:

the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
    our countrymen."
