Well how do you deal with these ers lol I have so many spawning each turn its not even funny, they inflect so much damage on my navies and as soon as i put them in port another whole bunch spawn. I know in reality it was like this but is there someway to make them ease off in the games settings? I want an enjoyable game and I don't mind pirates but they just spawn so much it's frustrating lol

What you can try doing is leaving a single ship of any kind in all of your coastal waters. Pirates will not spawn in sea regions if it is already occupied by anything else, even if it's just a cog or whatever. If that's too annoying to do, just set multiple fleets to be patrolling single stretches of coastline.

Use Galleys to patrol your waters. Problem solved.

You have to edit the pirates faction to have the technology group of new world. It removes them from game but is not save game compatible.

As battletoads mentioned: find the pirates faction file and set their technology group to "new_world", it is originally "latin".

At these new tech speeds, Pirates will never reach Naval Tech 9, thus will never be able to blockade, thus will never spawn.

A dangerous, yet possible, way to fix current savegames is thus:

    1. MAKE A BACKUP. < Important.
    2. Start a new 1399 game, save it.
    3. Access the savegame file from your 1399 save, find the pirate faction entry, copy the whole thing and paste it over the pirate entry in your current game.

It can easily go wrong, even a single { or } missed or pasted over will cascade throughout the whole save file and destroy it. Hence the backup.

If you do it correctly, however, it will reset the pirates back to their 1399 values of tech and, coupled with changing their tech sped to new_world, will mean they never trouble you again.

How do you make the pirates less frequent?
