    Default Mac-aroni and Sel-eese

    Hi
First, a big thank you to the devs and the testers for this great mod! The time, effort, and energy that went into creating this really comes through. I've played 3 campaigns thus far (Rome, Numidia, and Pontus) and enjoyed them each thoroughly. And I have had very few CTDs, other than the retreat-to-city ones, and those are to be expected with any RTW mod.

My question: Is there a simple nerf I can use for the Macs and the Sels, maybe in the descr_strat file? Can I cut their starting funds? In each campaign I've played so far, eventually I find myself staring down 15 or more full stacks of both Macs and Sels. They absorb territory at a freakish rate. They are beyond powerhouse factions -- they are unstoppable juggernauts. I appreciate a tough challenge, but they seem to have some kind of supercharger set-up. I feel like I'm bringing a pugio to a gladius fight.

Thanks again for the great work!

    CK

You can activate the console through the ~ key and typing the command:

    add_money macedon, -20000

(note the minus sign before 20000)

It would remove 20000 denarii from Macedon's treasure. You can replace macedon with the name of the faction you want to hurt, but it's not always the name which appears in the campaign. For example, Bactria is thrace and Thrace is dacia. You can figure out which is which through the descr_strat.txt file (lots of how-tos in TWC). The maximum amount of money you can give/remove from a faction is 40000 in Rome 1.5. I use this technique when playing historically, for example, so an AI faction doesn't end up dead when it isn't supposed to do so. Beware, however, as sometimes the situation might reverse and the faction you removed money from may start to lose territories at an alarming rate.

This could be very useful. Every campaign I've done they just go on the rampage and spam massive armies of their Sarissa Units. Playing as Carthage, they expanded all the way into Gaul/Germania and had the Romans as a protectorate. I wondered if the fact that as Carthage, I had prevented the Romans from expanding to the southwest (and eventually threw them out of Italy), I had nerfed their power.

However so far in my Seleucid campaign they are exactly the same and indeed have already broken an alliance and marched across the Hellespont with a Sarissa spammed army. I couldn't prevent them taking Abydos but took it back a turn later. However, I've only built watch towers at the crossing points where I need forts. I wish the code was there to demolish towers.

I think he means he wants mac&cheese now.

May I recommend the Extended Realism Mod? I only suggest it because I've spent many hours rebalancing it so you don't have one or two factions consistently steamrolling. Macs are no longer a huge problem, and the Seleucids are actually weaker than I like (I know they collapsed historically, but not quite so soon). Ptolies are a bit of a pain, but they're a work in progress.

btw, I don't use forts as frontier guards in this game 'cause they just aren't designed properly. I use them instead to block off the frontier, like so:

(I put armies on the red spots and minimally-staffed forts on the blue ones. Allows for total protection of N. Italy. and Marseilles.)

Extended Realism. What is the sub-mod for RTR (PE) called?

I'm sorry, I don't understand the question. To which submod are you referring?

Not your mod, the other one. I was acknowledging that I heard you say Extended Realism, which is why I wrote it again.

Oh, ok. I think the other major RTR-PE submods still in development are Imperator II and aqd's.

Yes, aqd's. That's it. Who's Imperator II and his sub-mod?

I forget who's working on that one right now (LestaT still?). It's designed for play as Rome, and focused on making a realistic and challenging game for just that one faction.
