It had troops called hussars after the Napoleonic wars, when Europe went nuts for them. However the similarity to their Austro-Hungarian namesake largely ended there. British cavalry were completely inept at the so-called 'small war' (raiding, skirmishing, etc), which was the hussar's speciality. Everything that hussars on the mainland were trained to do, the British had to pick up as they went along in the Peninsular War.
The English had Hussar units since 1685, and their first battle honurs was Dettingen. The British also used German Hussar mercanaries. In the Peninsular War, I belive that British used mixed units of Hussars and Dragoons and some of the regiments coverted between type during their existence.
