Icon12 Just installed M2TW and Kingdoms after playing Empire

One question why does it seem like M2TW has more stuff you can do. I have only played about an hour but it looks like they did not include some of the cool features of M2TW.

I bought M2TW and Kingdoms due to the AI issues with Empire and the random CTD's that I just now started getting. I have never played any TW game before Empire so with all the talk about M2TW I figured I would try it out until they fix Empire.

Granite the graphics are better in ETW but M2TW seems to have more things that you can do. One of my favorite so far is the talking of the text when a faction contacts you. I don't know about the rest of you but I have a hard time reading the text. it seems to be way to small on ETW.

Seems to me ETW took a step forward with naval but M2TW seems to have more options in campaign.

The other thing I noticed is the family tree I guess that's what you call it. The game seems to run really nice but Empire on the campaign map tends to get stuck for a few seconds.

My hardware is fine so I know it is the game. Again I have only played around with it for about an hour but I am starting to see that M2TW had some cool features.

The other thing I like and maybe old is the way it zooms before you start a battle. Well off to play some Kingdoms after installing the Stainless Steel mod.

Hopefully CA can bring back some of these features and get the game stable.

I think MTW2 is a more interesting game as well. Part of the problem is that a lot of the things in Empire might be buggy and not working. Take agents for example. Agents in Empire just dont seem to work right.

Some things are just annoying. Like all your buildings scattered around the countryside so you have to click on them all to upgrade them. It needs some type of "region" interface where you can see all the structures in a region at the same time and see which ones need to be upgraded.

The only things I like better in Empire is the diplomacy screen and the naval battles, and I only mention the naval battles because they dont exist in MTW2. I dont really like what they did with the naval battles in general.

I'll be playing TA:TW until EBII is ready. Both are going to be great mods for M2TW.

It's called the "building browser" and is found at the bottom right corner of your screen.

That shows all the existing structures in a province at the same time and which ones are ready to upgrade? From what I remember it just showed one building at a time and its upgrade path. I will have to check it out if I ever start up the game again. Not sure I will bother.

I did not know you could upgrade your buildings using the browser. i thought you could just locate them.

You're sort of right. Well, for instance, if you open the building browser for a region, you can click on one of the buildings, it brings you to a tree of what can be built or what you've already built on that particular village, if you click on these it'll select the building/village on the campaign map and you can then quickly build the next installment by clicking on it at the bottom of your screen where you usually click to upgrade.

that is no good BigB is correct wot is needed is a central interface telling you wot buildings are present and wot is being constructed, would be handly to have this display religious details aswell so you could know were to build churches etc.

the building browser just lets you see wots build and shows you the building tree, you cant see if anything needs upgrading or even issue a build order without zooming to the location which takes longer than simply scanning the map so it is basically useless. currently per region you can have 1 capitol, 4 towns and a port thats a hell of alot of windows to open just to upgrade; now multiply this by 50 regions and you can see how tedious the current system is.

also were is the "town is ready for upgrade" notification

It definitely needs improvement. Still, you CAN use that interface to zoom in to buildings instead of scrolling by yourself. Frankly, I use the visual cues on the map myself (the pivoting hammers).

So you scan the map like the rest of us (which is a pain). At least you admit it needs improvement.

In previous TW games all we had to do was select the city and we could see all the buildings in existence and see which ones we wanted to build or upgrade. Very convenient. In Empire we have to scan around the entire area searching for each building. Its annoying.

If they want to keep the buildings scattered around because they think its more realistic and has more strategy ... fine (although the truth is it just handicaps the AI). They should still give us one interface per region that shows all the existing buildings at once. Instead of clicking on the city like we did in previous games, we click on the region and get the same type of interface.

This entire game was not thought out very well and is missing a lot of polish.

Sure MTW2 rocks, but let us not forget it has been some years, patches and an expansion since it was initially released.

Anyhow, I never even uninstalled MTW2, while trying out ETW -)

I talked about the scattered town issue with Thamis earlier, and he said that their UI designers are already working to improve it. Didn't say when or how, though.

M2TW rocks. I love ETW (the way you love a problematic child ) but I know once I get burned out of it I will be back among knights and crossbowmen.

I went back to Empire because using the Stainless Steel mod it was taking way to long on turns. I am using darthmod 1.2 now and I have had some crazy battles.

I really like Empire just wish you could do more stuff with buildings, resources, Ministers and so on. Maybe add some more statistics for example battles won for each army.

M2TW is fun but hated waiting for my turn to come around. Plus I am not use to it yet.
