    Default XP vs Vista

Im sorry if this has been asked before, but what kind of program works best with Empire? XP or Vista? If there are any difference, is it much?

Well, if you've got 2Gb of memory then use XP. If you've got a lot of memory (over 3Gb) then use Vista 64-bit. Vista can be a bit of a hog with memory - that's why the minimum requirements are different between the two operating systems.

Part of the problem with Vista is that many people don't know how to use it. It does use more resources than XP (mainly memory) so make sure that you've plenty of that - I have 8Gb on my Vista 64 bit system.

Have a read of the first and last links in the following thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=167821

I did that before I started to use Vista last August and I've had no real problems. I did manage to stop the control panel from appearing so I had to reinstall Vista. But that is my own fault for messing with some of the system settings.

I toggled off UAC and installed games into a folder other than c:\program files (x86). The result is that I have saves and replays (for RTW and M2TW games) stored in the usual folder.

I think there is also a lot of problems with high end Nvidia cards for ETW. They will be sorted eventually.

The game doesn't use DirecX10, so that doesn't matter.

The ATI 4850 is a decent enough card.

I'd look to add more memory (3GB is OK but memory is fairly cheap nowadays) - there doesn't appear to be anywhere on this page to allow you to do that.

I looked on the web page for the overview but I don't see it - it may be that I am in the UK and get different details than you do. The Gateway appears to be from the USA while the second link looks Swedish (or nordic anyway).

The Dell looks OK. I've had three or four Dell desktops in the past and they are all well built machines. Some people say that they are very hard to upgrade as they use their own connections.

In the past I've added sound cards, graphics cards, memory and even a DVD player to various Dells that I've owned.

Actually Empire doesn't use dx10 so there is NO graphic difference between xp and vista.

Start a business and then it becomes a valid business expense - I am an IT contractor and have my own limited company (1 employee).
