#1. Disable UAC. Use google to learn how.
#2. Unhide all hidden and system files and folders. The search function is a great source.
#3. In My Computer, in the search function, type in virtual store.

    1. DON'T disable UAC. It's a useful security feature, no matter what others tell you.
    2. Make hidden files and directories visible (Folder Options)
    3. Navigate to [yourvistasystemdriveletter]:\users\[youruser]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\

He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. If you have a single user pc and a decent firewall and a good anti-virus, you can turn off the UAC. There are third party programs out there better than anything Microsoft can come up with concerning security and a lot more user friendly.

This not the place to discuss this, but I one of the worst things you can do is work as administrator (which is what you essentially do if you turn off UAC). Remember the Holy Trinity of PC Security: Firewall, Anti-Virus, Limited User Rights.

As for third party security software (beyond anti-virus): I highly doubt their usefulness. Most of them only replicate or are based on Vista system functions. And they introduce more possible leaks if not patched correctly.

This is considered somewhat off-topic but I'm going to give a little history lesson.

Microsoft NEVER has any security features before Vista. When I got my first modem, top transfer rate was 19,200 baud, I was still using DOS, Central Point Software just released the first antivirus software for Microsft products, there was only one online site of which I have forgotten, and the internet as you know it was strictly government and university yet. Any restricted user rights, you were strictly on your own. Do your research and you can tell me what version of DOS I had.

The first firewall was Norton before being swallowed by Symantec.

You have it backwards. Steve Ballmer's kids are robbing from Symantec, Zone Alarm, and a host of others because they are so far behind.

On a personal note, I don't trust Microsoft. I do my downloads and installs manually. What I have have on my computer is none of their or anybody else's business.
