    Default Removing Platoon Firing?

    I feel like I'm not alone in the belief that ETW's Rank Fire is superior to the Platoon Firing drill.

    That said, I would like to "force" my units to use Rank Firing even AFTER Platoon Firing has been researched.

    Is this possible? Looking around with the Pack File Manager, under the Technology_effects_junction_table you see a list of all the Tech's and what effects they have. It would seem like each one that simply adds an ability (such as Rank and Platoon firing) has a "1" next to it. If I were to change military_army_platoon_firing to a 0 (I'm assuming 0 is a "disable" switch), would this remove the Platoon Firing from units? If so, would it revert back to using the previous firing drill, which would be Rank Firing?

    I'm hoping someone has thought of a way to do this already! Let me know.

    Couldn't you edit unit_to_unit_abilities_junctions? Just sort the second column alphabetically, find the abilities that come after Rank Fire, and remove them from all the units in the game with the beauty of the shift+click.

    You are not alone, it has been removed from the Grognard mod because it just annoyed people

    And what erasmus777 has said should work, although whether or not you remove fire & advance is up to you, personally I think it's a bit overated and the AI tends to overuse it.

    Would I simply replace all of the improved_platoon_fire_grouped and platoon_fire_grouped with rank_fire to do this?

    No, just delete the rows for the ability you want to remove. Only add units to that list if they don't already have rank_fire.

    Hm, how do I go about deleting the rows? I'm using Pack File Manager and see no way to do this. Do you mean just delete the "platoon_fire_grouped" text, and the improved one as well? When I do that it auto sets it to "gabionade".

    Go to Options above the right window. Uncheck "Use first column as row header." You can then highlight rows by clicking in the empty cells on the left. Press delete.

    Ok. I have done this but the grenadiers still use platoon fire. All of the other elitre units now use rank fire, except for the grenadiers! I can't figure out what is wrong though. Can someone that has removed platoon fire upload the mod so I can get mine working?

    Can anyone upload a mod or patch that removes platoon fire completely from all units. I don't understand why mine removes platoon fire from all units but the grenadiers!

    I've done that too, but none of my units seem to stop using platoon firing.
    I edited original main.pack and i'm not running any other mods.
    What do i do wrong? Could someone please make such a mod? It shouldn't be hard for an experienced modder... K, thx.

    What does everyone have against Platoon anyway? I've heard it "decreases combat effectivness", but what does that mean?!?

    If it's an accuracy thing, then up the accuracy. If it's a general lack of oomph in it's delivery, then change it. Platoon fire isn't meant for killing loads, it's meant to keep the enemy under constant fire/

    People don't like platoon firing because of the setup time where the ranks extend before the platoon firing engages, also this rank expansion can get screwy with battle lines as units overlap.

    Do I remove both platoon_fire_grouped and improved_platoon_fire_grouped? what's the difference?

    OKay, a little help please....

    I have gone into the unit_to_unit_abilities_junctions in the patch.pack file and removed all instances of platoon fire and improved platoon fire and set it up as a "mod" in the mod manager with the correct directory structure. It just does not take effect in the game. What am I doing wrong?

    Are you running any other mods?

    I am, but they for the most part just change uniforms. I tried removing all the mods and just using my mod removing platoon fire with no success. Here is the list of the mods I am using:

    I've found that upping the Grenadiers reload rate to 40 (up from 35) seems to make platoon fire a great deal better as long as the unit has ample room to spread out.
    Might have to test further on other elite units.

    Does Anybody think that there is anyway to modify the stats of the Platoon firing i.e. the number of men that fire, rather than just the reload time.

    (A Platoon is ~50 men) 50 muskets at once for darthmod with 300men 6 shots with fast reload time?

    I've spend a good hour reading manuals and changing stuff, but i think i've done it. Works for me, anyway. I'll leave it here in case someone needs it.
