What would YOU do to combat the global economic recession?

As the title says. What would you personally, do to combat the current economic meltdown being felt all over the world. There has been some threads covering the crisis and plenty of news stories about the causes of it and what leaders are doing to fix it. I thought it might be interesting to get any given individual's perspective on the situation and what they might be doing if they were Obama or Brown or any other world leader.

For me, I would pour money into the construction of long term lasting infrastructure and also cap some of the highest paid salaries. Sporting teams have salary caps for their players and they can't go over the budget, I don't see why a country's big earners can't be bound by the same principle.

Please discuss and also explain what you would choose to do.

Those caps are decided by the league, not the government. So I'm going to go wtih Scarface and say it is not the government's place.

Leave the banks to their own devices.
They created the problem for the most part, they can suffer for it.
Darwin: the less corrupt and healthiest banks will survive.

Set up an Industrial Credit Corporation to fill the demand vacuum for short, medium and long term credit for business. This would then be sold when times come back for the benefit of the taxpayer.

Property seizure banned for two years.

Bail out the people by buying up mortgages of certain sections of the population in a large land purchase act, to increase the amount of disposable income available to the public.

Nationalize the Federal Reserve would be the best place to start. That's the ONE bank that needs to be nationalized.

Cut subsidies of various large corporations, especially in the auto industry, and allow newer, better companies to fill the void. Individual welfare isn't as costly and is far more temporary. Once you take corporations under your wing, its hard to get the leeches off. Allow the people that bought homes they could never afford to go under and move, lesson learnt. However, I would also increase individual welfare to help out the general population for a few years. Nothing major, just help out the people that are going to be hit by the job losses. It's necessary for us to keep people up and going while the bad investments and credit is being purged.

I would go for the standard econ boom BO.

Spam SCVs, get a second expansion up, and put a bunker up near a third vespene node.

The prime reason for the recession is the decreased consumer spending in the USA.

But rather than trying to boost US consumer spending, I would try to get the Chinese to spend more: they have more than enough money and could really use a boost in standard of living.

The world is capitalist, therefore the number one economy is destined to gain political and diplomatic supreme power as long as it doesn't isolate itself.

I'd rather concentrate on getting South America and India up rather than jumping into China's oppressive bossum. Brazil and India is where the future should lie, if we're smart.

If the Chinese buy more European goods, we both benefit.
In fact: the European economy will probably grow faster than the Chinese one. - just like the Chinese economy grew like crazy when America bought their crap product.

I would do absolutely nothing, and stop riding on utopian socialist wave of thinking that "capitalism has failed". the market will sort the rest out by itself without me running around like a chicken with a head cut off and printing worthless paper money like crazy.

it is by far not the first or the last time we are in a recession. nothing apocalyptic happened, so everyone should just calm the hell down and wait till its over.

you can't possibly be serious if you claim that the govt now has a role to not let everybody FAIL because they made HORRIBLE DECISIONS and suffered consequences. the govt needs to establish a framework where everyone should have an opportunity both to succeed and to fail. thats called free market economy.

-Drastically cut spending everywhere. This means defense, education, welfare, subsidies etc.
-Slash/abolish most taxes, institute a 15% flat tax, consumption tax (with a 10% cap) & corporate tax.
-Punish those who bought homes they couldn't afford by not giving them anything. Let them burn, and rise from the ashes as (hopefully) smarter people.
-No more bailouts, no more stimulus packages - time to see capitalism in action, you either swim or sink; let the banks & businesses crash, those that survive have proven that they are fit to operate within our economy.
-Nationalize the Fed. Reserve. This is my highest priority.
-Tell everyone to calm the down.
