It's likely the Ottoman either signed a peace deal or traded a region, and when the AI looked for a place to put the Ottoman armies (which were now on another country's soil), it looked for the closest piece of Ottoman controlled land. Evidently it was that island.
Definitely NOT a ship taking them there. We all know that's not possible...
Hmm wonder if they are going to now stay there. I have been at war with them for years now slowly beating them down.
Those guys are pretty much stranded now. Consider them out of the war, or conscientious objectors. Even with the fixes to AI naval troop movement that are coming soon ( I hope) I can't see the AI getting around to giving them a lift back home.
See Nimoto's post above.

Yeah, pretty much - the AI is horrible (actually, practically never) at picking up troops or agents they drop off. I've seen seven six-to-eight-star Venetian cardinals crowding the Byzantine (!) island of Rhodes in M2:TW. Nope, not a chance AI Venice will send a military fleet out there and individually bail out their cardinals. I used a tile-crowd feature to peacefully squash them out of life and end their exile.
As for the nearest region mechanic - there should be some feature whereby they are not landed on an anomalous little island (or better yet, make the little island impassable as in previous TW games) - but otherwise, I can't see any other solution. Your army can't just stay in that traded territory, and they can be put into another nation's territory thereby initiating hostilities (or if it's made so they don't cause hostilities, the nation in question doesn't get an unfair advantage by getting to launch a blitzkrieg attack on some heartland area). Should the army have to be taken all the way across Europe or even overseas... well, I have to say, "so be it."![]()
Naval invasion?!?
Are you using any mods?
"It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

No it will be because of a peace treaty signed, as per above.
Ive had the same with my units, they goto the nearest piece of land by direct line that you have movement rights in (military access, protectorate, or your own soverign lands).
Ive had them move half way across europe...
That happened to me when I took Istanbul (not Constantinople) in an Austria game. I think it was a rebellion of some sort, but they appeared on the island rather than somewhere useful.
And the AI uses naval invasions in Darth Mod? I haven't seen it yet.

Yeah, it seems they retreated out of of the area and the closest place was that isolated island. Lucky for you.
And did Poland expand that much? Jesus...
